Scavenger Hunt Clues

By: Sheena Perron of http://littleldsideas.blogspot.com

Now we’re going to talk about the Scavenger Hunt Clues.

I have included the clues that will be used in this activity. All you need to do is Print them out (a set for each
team) and then put each clue inside of something. You can use envelopes; that is probably the easiest. If you
can find different colored envelopes to match your team colors that would work really well. Or use white
envelopes, and label each envelope: i.e.- Blue Team Clue #1, Blue Team Clue #2, Red Team Clue #1 etc.
When we did this activity, I got a piece of cardstock (the color of each team), placed the clue in the
middle of the cardstock, and then folded the bottom flap up and the top flap down. Then I taped/put a sticker, to
keep the clues closed. Here’s an example.

Clue
Then on the outside write: Clue #1, Clue #2, etc.

I have included a chart below, to make the task of putting the Clues together, a little easier.
So, the children will be completing 13 missions (puzzles, games, etc.) The chart below shows you what each
Team’s Mission is by telling you what AoF they will be working on and in what room it is located. In my first
document, (the Scavenger Hunt Instructions), I included a Room Chart. I had you write down the room number
where each Article of Faith puzzle/game would be located. Using that chart, fill in the room numbers in the
chart below (You don’t really need the room number for the construction of the Scavenger Hunt Clues, but it
will come in handy in just a little bit, just keep reading, you’ll see what I’m talking about.)
- So, whatever room you have listed for Article of Faith #12 on your Room Chart, write that same room
number in each team’s Room Number Column, etc. etc.

Alright, so you have your chart filled out. Now you can go ahead and print and cut out your clues. I would start
with one team, print and cut each clue. Then put all of their clues in order (using the above chart); then place
each clue in an envelope, and then label each envelope with it’s Clue #. Let’s use the Blue Team as an example.
Print and cut out all of the Blue team’s clues. Start with their first clue (AoF #1), place it into the envelope and
write: Clue #1 on the outside. Then get the 2nd clue (AoF #12), place it in the envelope and write: Clue #2 on
the outside, etc. etc. Along with the clues, I have also included a ‘Clue Key,’ this has each clue sorted by the
Article of Faith Number. Just in case you cut out all of your clues, and then realize, you don’t know which is
which. ☺

Set-Up of Scavenger Hunt Clues:

Alright, so you have all of your Clues put together and are in envelopes. It’s the day of the activity and it’s time
to place the clues in the rooms. This is where I messed up. I didn’t have any type of chart telling me where each
clue went or anything. I was completely lost! I know we’ve used a lot of charts, but I promise they will help in
the long run! The day of the activity, the only charts you will need will be your Room Chart and your Clue
Placement Chart.
So, let’s talk about setting up the clues. Like in all scavenger hunts the clues are always one step ahead. For
example: Clue #1 is given to each team in the gym (or wherever you begin your activity), although Clue #1
goes with Article of Faith #1 (which is located in the Primary Room). You don’t want to put Clue #1 in the
Primary Room, because if it’s in there, no one will know where to go first…right? Hope that makes sense.
So, for this chart we are going to be writing down the rooms that the clues will go in. This is the same chart as
above, but without the Article of Faith column. You are going to write down all of your room numbers from
above. Don’t pay attention to the Mission number, just write down your room numbers in the same order as
above.
Then on the day of the activity you will be able to use this chart to help you place all of your clues in the correct
rooms. Example: Blue Team Clue #2 will go in the Primary Room, Clue #3 will go in the room number that you
have written down, etc., etc. (Chart is Below)
If you want to make it really easy you could always type up all of your rooms, and then underneath each room,
write what clues will go in that room. Here’s an example:

Where to leave each clue: If you have a person in each room, you could give them the clues to hand out to
each team once they finish the mission…OR…in each room tape/attach the clues to a wall (or you could set
them on a small table) where the children can see them. Once they have finished their mission, they go and find
their team’s clue, take it off the wall and read it.
Below are the clues that you will use for this activity. Instead of typing up each team’s clues, I have typed up
each team’s first clue (because I had to change a word for each team) and then I typed up the other 12 clues.
Print each of the team’s first clues and put them inside of an envelope and label it Blue Team Clue # 1, Red
Team Clue # 1, etc. Then print each of the 12 clues 4 times (one for each team). Use the chart from before
(Chart #1) to help you know the order of clues for each team.
For example: The Blue team’s 2nd mission is the clue for AoF #12 and the 3rd mission for the blue team is the
clue for AoF #3, the 4th mission is the clue for AoF #6.
When cutting out your clues, be sure not to include what Article of Faith number it is. I labeled each one just as
a help to you. I have also included a ‘Clue Key’. After cutting each clue, you may not know which clue goes to
which Article of Faith, use the Key to help with that.
