Classifying and Identifying Lines, Shapes, and Other Two-Dimensional Figures
Grade Level: 4th
Objectives: The student will be able to:
-

Classify two-dimensional figures based upon presence or absence of parallel and/or


perpendicular lines
Standard: 4.G.A.2 Classify two-dimensional figures based on the presence or
absence of parallel or perpendicular lines, or the presence or absence of angles of a
specified size. Recognize right triangles as a category, and identify right triangles.
Explanation:
Using the Smart Board teacher will display a 2D shape. Teacher will model
identifying the characteristics of said shape. Teacher will repeat this with multiple
shapes. Teacher will make sure that parallel and perpendicular lines are the focus of
this particular lesson. As more shapes are modeled then comparisons can be drawn
with a think aloud.
Check for Understanding: The teacher draws a variety of shapes on the board and
