Lael Wa ele aUS Eurofighter Typhoon Satisfactory completion of Eurofighter Typhoon Type Acceptance trials in late June marked the final step in clearing the way for service deliv eries to the air forces of the four participating nations in the international programme. Signalling their approval of the design and build standard of the aircraft, Type Acceptance was preceded on 10 June by confirmation that the Typhoon had achieved its contracted Basic Mass Empty (BME) requirement. The first four production standard ucofighter Typhoon SPAs (two-seat variants) each weighed in preparation for delivery t0 their respective air forces, were shown 10 have measured values below the contracted aireraft mass requirements. For single-seat Typhoons, the contracted BME weight is 11 tonnes (24,251 Ib), while the two-seat version is 700 kg G.S15 Ib) heavier. Based on these weighings, rurofighter is confident that all 148 Tranche 1 aieraft- will be within the contracted mass requirements. 30 june thus became the fist inservice date for the ‘Typhoon in the UK and Germany allowing these customer air forces to proceed ‘with operational evaluation and intial training acivities. Hal and Spain will follow suit in (October. In the UK, the first of $5 RAP Tranche 1 Typhoons, comprising 37 single-seat FMk 2 and 18 two-seat TMK 1/A versions, will b ‘operated by service personnel in’ No. (Reserve) Squadron for the first 18 months from BBAE systems!
