What do you think would govern employment if wages/salaries are not paid?
If salaries and wages are not paid and doesnt exist anymore, the only
thing that I think can govern employment is the autonomy of a person or its
desire to direct his own life and find its purpose and happiness. If salary is
not present, there will be no other means of getting money other than
autonomy therefore, money wont have much purpose any longer. People will
go back to its old times where you trade your possessions of what you have
more to what you have less just to satisfy your needs to remain alive.
Employment can still exist however, money wont be their motivator to
work anymore. People must be assigned to a job based on their abilities and
interests. The motivation scheme or the driving force in order for them to
continue working is the incentives. Incentive doesnt have to be money. It
can be something that you need or want because Psychology says that if you
reward something, you get more of the behavior you want. You will get what
you need and work what you can. In this way, the thought about working for
compliance will be changed into working for engagement. Thats why some
people do stuffs for other people for free because, its either they just want
to make contributions or to challenge their mastery at a thing that they are
into. Because if you like what you do, there will be a driving force in you to
get better at it and from there, youll find your purpose. We will be purpose
maximizers and not profit maximizers. We will care more about mastery and
be self-directed. There will be a freedom to make mistakes in mastering your
job and when you finally realize that it was a mistake, then simply not do it
again and continue learning and discovering. Salary creates psychological
blocks that make us limit our capabilities of innovating a better world
because money is real and people ought to suffer just to get it. People
nowadays work with a sole purpose of getting money that they begin to
confuse it with happiness.
People work in order to gain wealth. What we have to do now is to
change the psychological attitude that, the more money you have, the
wealthier you are. Wealth must be more about the nature of your work, the
pleasure and happiness you have in your life.
