LA Unit- A World of Tales

Overview: In this unit, we will be focusing on researching, citing, and

writing. Students will be exposed to many different legends and folk
tales, and we will begin by learning about Mexico and creating
individual power point presentations. We will then compare Mexico to
Canada and learn about Venn Diagrams. From here, students will have
the opportunity to write their own legend and share it with peers.
Rationale: This unit is a fun unit for students and it allows us to look
into different cultures, beliefs, and values. This will be a very special
experience because we have a student that recently moved here from
Mexico, so this project will bring awareness to other students in the
class about the culture this student came from. It also provides
opportunities for students to work with technology and present their
findings to their peers.
Assessment: In this unit I will summatively assess students based on
three specific learning outcomes:
3.4 - Students will communicate ideas and information in a variety of
oral, print and other media texts, such as short reports, talks and
posters.
-Students will select visuals, print and/or other media to add interest to
engage the audience.
This will be shown to me in their power point presentations.
3.2- Students will locate information to answer research questions
using a variety of sources.
This will be shown to me in the research process before and the
content of their power point presentations.
2.4- Students will use a variety of strategies for generating and
organizing ideas and experiences in oral, print and other media texts.
This will be shown to me with the writing of personal legends.
GLOs:
1. Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and represent to
explore thoughts, ideas, feelings and experiences.
2. Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and represent to
comprehend and respond personally and critically to oral, print
and other media texts.
3. Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and represent to
manage ideas and information.
4. Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and represent to
enhance the clarity and artistry of communication

5. Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and represent to
