High School Level Interventions: Literacy


Cohort English 9 and Cohort English 10 - 3 trimesters, smaller
class sizes, focus on reading and writing skills
Sheltered Content English 9
Sheltered Content English 11
Critical Analysis - focuses on reading speed and comprehension
Composition - 11th grade focuses writing skills
Short Stories - 11th grade focuses on reading skills
Legends and Short Stories - 12th grade focuses and on reading
skills
English 12 - Practical Applications of English skills
High School Level Interventions: Numeracy
Sheltered Content Math classes for EL Students
Foundations of Algebra (for EL students that are not at gradelevel for Algebra. Math ability ranges from 1st grade to 5th
grade)
Intermediate Algebra
Geometry
Intermediate Algebra. Class designed for students that failed
Intermediate Algebra A and B. Students work on PLATO to fill in
gaps in their math knowledge. If students complete through
Linear Algebra they can earn a math credit
Three Trimester Classes (Intermediate Algebra, Geometry and
Advanced Algebra) Content offered over three trimesters vs two
trimesters. Pace of the class is more moderate, allow more time
for processing
Summer School classes. Students can earn a 2 trimesters worth
of credits during the summer
Co-Taught Math classes. Math teacher and Special Education
teacher or Math teacher and EL Teacher. Intermediate Algebra
(Special Ed and EL), Geometry (Special Ed), Advanced Algebra
(Special Ed)
Embedded AVID strategies in all classes
Elementary Level Interventions: Literacy
Reading Corps - grades 1-3

Reading Recovery - grade 1


PRESS Interventions - grades K-6
Bridges (Targeted Services during intersession) - grades K-6
Unity Center Targeted Services - grades 5-6

Math Corps - grades 4-6
Number Worlds Intervention (very limited) - grades 4-6
Bridges (Targeted Services during intersession) - grades K-6
Unity Center Targeted Services - grades 5-6
Classroom teachers also differentiate instruction in
literacy and math
to meet student needs.

After school meetings with teachers
Unity Center after school tutoring
Targeted Services (TOPS)
Special education classes
7th grade students in specific STAR with English teacher (for
some of our teams)
