This meeting is being held in conformity to the Open Public Meetings Act N.J.S.A. 10:4-6
et. seq. Proper public notice of the meeting was published in the local papers on March
5th, 6th, 12th and 13th, 2016.
If any Board member or member of the public in attendance believes that the meeting is in
violation of the Open Public Meetings Act, the Hoboken Board of Education requests that
they make a statement at this time.
The Board wishes to make those in attendance aware that this meeting is being recorded
on video and will be broadcast by the Board at a later date on CATV Channel 77
and Fios Channel 46. The full meeting recording will also be made available
on BoardDocs, which can be accessed through the district homepage.
The Hoboken Board of Education is committed to preserving the decorum of the public
process and is mindful that we live in the electronic age of computers, cell phones and
other electronic communications devices. Nevertheless, we respectfully request that all
meeting participants kindly silence their electronic devices during the course of the
meeting, and if use of the device is necessary, we ask that you please leave the meeting
room if you need to conduct personal business.

In the afternoon of March 14, 2016, it was brought to our attention that the Public Notice of the Special Meeting to
Adopt the Budget, which ran on March 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th, 2016 in the Jersey Journal and Hoboken Reporter,
contained an error. The notice correctly stated that the special meeting would take place on March 17th, but
incorrectly noted that date as a Tuesday, not a Thursday.
In response to this discovery, the following actions were taken in order to adequately notify the Public of this
mistake:
Corrected Notice was published on the district website on March 14, 2016;
Corrected Notice was posted on the districts official Facebook page on March 14, 2016;
Corrected Notice was posted on the districts official Twitter account on March 14, 2016;
Corrected Notice was posted on the districts BoardDocs site on March 14, 2016;
Corrected Notice was delivered to the City Clerks Office and posted on the afternoon of March 15, 2016;
6. On March 15th, emailed Hoboken Reporter and Jersey Journal to request corrections to the notice:
a. Hoboken Reporter posted a correction on their website on March 15, 2016,
b. Jersey Journal printed a correction in their March 17, 2016 paper;
7. Corrected Notice was posted at the entrances and on the notice boards of all district schools (Brandt,
Calabro, Connors, Wallace and Hoboken Junior Senior High School) and at the districts administrative
offices here at the Demarest building, on March 15, 2016.

Additionally, please note that the Meeting DAY and DATE were announced by the Board President, Thomas
Kluepfel during the March 8, 2016 Board Meeting, which has been repeated on CATV Channel 77 and Fios
Channel 46:

And notice of the special meeting date has been posted on the Hoboken BoardDocs homepage since on or
around March 8, 2016.

all Board members and the public in advance to assure an extensive and thorough review. Items may be removed

5.01 Approval of a Tentative Hoboken Public School District Budget for the 20162017 Fiscal Year

WHEREAS, the Superintendent and Business Administrator presented to the Finance

Committee and other members of the Hoboken Board of Education a recommended Local Tax
Levy of $42,502,765.00 to support the 2016-2017 School District Budget in the amount of
$69,758,824.00; and
WHEREAS, said proposed Local Tax Levy increases by 3.65%, which includes a cap waiver for
increased enrollment and health insurance costs, supports staff positions and student
programs, provides for negotiated contracts with employee bargaining units and provides
funds for various capital projects; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the board of education hereby adopts the Hoboken
Board of Education School Budget, Fiscal Year 2016-2017, attached hereto as a tentative
budget for the purpose of submitting said budget to the Office of the Hudson County
Superintendent of Schools as required by law and code, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the board of education hereby directs the Board
Secretary/School Business Administrator to cause said budget to be advertised in the
newspapers and made available on the school district web site as required, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that subsequent to the county superintendents approval of said
tentative budget, the board will welcome community input at its regularly scheduled annual
Public Budget Hearing on May 3, 2016 and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Hoboken Board of Education will, after said public
hearing, vote to formally adopt the Proposed School District Budget for the 2016-2017 fiscal
year.
