TROPICAL DESIGN

Concept: Pinwheel
A pinwheel is a kinetic sculpture made of a wheel of paper or plastic
curls attached at its axle to a stick by a pin. It is designed to spin when
blown upon by a person or by the wind.
The architects intend to design a bungalow that will maximize the wind
flow around the building, and at the same time, minimize the suns
harsh effect to provide the maximize amount of comfort level that
could possibly be attained. The designers decided to associate and use
the pinwheel as a basis of the structure because of this. A pinwheel is
usually considered pliant since it gracefully moves and spins along to
the presence of the wind. The single storey house will also have this
characteristic. That is to have a reaction that will have the least
amount of negative disturbance to the users of the building and
instead utilize the wind, the sun, and other natural elements such as
precipitation for the comfort and convenience of the occupants.
The residential building will inhibit another trait of the pinwheel that is
environment friendly, since it operates with only the use of wind power
and not mechanical systems. The building will be using passive design
to minimize the use of electric powered machines and mechanical
systems. Efficient placement and amount of openings will be used so
that the consumption of air conditioning units and artificial light will be
reduced.
Other than the building fabric used on the structure itself, the
designers will make use of the landscape and vegetation to control or
induce wind flow in the surrounding of the building and in the interiors
of the house as well.

Explanations:
- Will be using passive design
- Solar panels will be used
- Small structure, less energy is used
- Self-sustaining fountain
