It has been our mission to demonstrate ways that Origami can be introduced into the school curriculum at different grade levels as both a learning tool and fun pastime. Over the past 11 issues of Creased we've introduced you to the ‘most common bases used in Origami that those pursuing this art form will use over and over again. Your students will have a foundation on which to build their skills. Please remember that all the lessons are available for download in a printable format on the home page of our website, Creased.com. In this issue of Creased we introduce the Wang Wallet and the traditional Blow Top. There are many creative and practical uses for each of these models in and out of the classroom. The Wang Wallet is fun and practical to fold. It is suitable for students in lower grades. This model is a great little pocket to hold notes or even money. The Wallet can be made from any size square. ‘Try out different types of paper and share this model with friends. You can use squared copy paper and have the students decorate their finished wallets. The Blow Top is a 6-unit modular model and is a great action model. The model requires students to fold units that are the waterbomb base from Lesson 5. The units are identical so the students will have a lot practice folding this base. You'll have to remind the students to fold with accuracy and patience. The assembly of the model might be a challenge to some. Give students paperclips or small clothespins to hold the units together when assembling. Hold the completed model tightly between palms and blow to see the spinning motion or suspend from a thin string and use for a decoration. This model is best suited for students in grades 4 and up. & Y Teaching Tips and Techbiqued Discuss the bases learned and the models that begin with those bases. Look at the topography of a model and identify the geometric shapes formed in creating the model. Refresh students’ approach to beginning a new model. For example, read directions carefully, study each step, look ahead to see the results of a fold. Use kami paper for practice. It is usually best to have a duo colored paper. Encourage students to fold with a friend or a group. Remind students that when doing Origami, looking at a neighbor's paper is a good thing. To see more lof Cuong's work vist http://www flickr.com/ pphotos/blackscorpion/. ‘To solve this CP, you should start with creases at the top, then go to the center, and finally the bottom creases, Please note that the center point ‘snot the center of the square. The top part of this CP is designed based ‘on 22.5 degree angles, but the middle and bottom contain many strange lines. ‘The idea of creating a shark in attack mode came when I sav Fernando Gilgado's “help me” series. | like the scene of a shark with mouth wide ‘open, chasing its prey. Designing the shark head is easier than | thought. But it took me a lot of time to create a body that matches the detailed head I designed. Since the model contains many free folds, you have to make some attempts to get the desired result. 38 | CREASEDCOM ~Cuong Nguyen Hung A TARE ago (sorter Sa Rerean Patter Collection PLUS Origami PAPER We've gone full circle for this Issue’s POP.
