Advantages and Disadvatages of Single Sex Schools

For many centuries single sex schools have been very attended owing to the
education it provides and the difference in the academical performance it shows.
This form of education can improve children's performance in many ways but, at
the same time, it can cause him or her psycho-social issues.
On the one hand, the neurological and biological difference between boys and
girls is a major point which can describe the need of single-gender schools. For
these reasons, many experts argue that boys and girls learn differently or that
they perform better in spare classes. For example, a 2008 study done in
Germany proves that eight grade girls studying physics in single-sex classes
perform better than their counterparts in coeducational classes. Moreover, some
research indicates that girls learn better when classroom temperature is warm,
while boys perform better in cooler classrooms. If thats true, then the
temperature in a single-sex classroom could be set to optimize the learning of
either male or female students.
On the other hand, single-gender schools are most of the times very expensive.
More than half of the world's population feels the world economical crisis and
the budget alocated for education has decreased significantly nowadays.
Moreover, partents willing to pay high taxes for tuition are usually rich and from
superior social class, while most of the partents believe that education is and
can be the same in both single sex and mixed sex schools.
This education may seem beneficial from the intellectual point of view, but lets
not forget the fact that single-gender schools can cause some major issues in
child' social life. Students in single-sex classrooms will one day live and work
side-by-side with members of the opposite sex. Educating students in single-sex
schools limits their opportunity to work cooperatively and co-exist successfully
with members of the oppositesex.
In conclusion, single-sex schools seem to give what a parent want for his child,
but at the end of the day social problems are more likely to compromise those
academical achieveings from all those years.
