otherhelpfulwebsitesandsourcesthatwillaidyouinyourresearchthissemester.Thefocusisonfamily
structures,traditions,holidays,languages,etc.Asapartofourstudy,youwilldosomeresearchintotheirown
cultureandfamilyheritage.Wehopeyouhavefunlearningaboutyourfamilysgenealogicalhistoryand
writingaboutitinascrapbookformat!

Investigateandconstructatimelinethatdocuments20lifechangingeventsinyour
familyhistory(significantbirths,marriages,deaths,tragedies,celebrations,monumentalmoments,
immigration,militaryservice,familymoveswithintheUnitedStates,historicalevents,etc.).Besureto
incorporateasmanypeoplefromyourfamilytreeaspossible.Thistimelinemustbeinchronologicalorder.

5.FamilyBiographies
DevoteonepageeachtoTWOfamilymembersincludedonyourfamilytree
includeaphotographofeach.Writeafullpagebiographyabouttheirlifeinshortunifiedparagraphs.You
mightconsiderdividingyourparagraphsintochildhood,work/worklife,familylife,andmiddleoroldage.

6.LocalHistorySummaries
Everycommunitythatyourancestorslivedinhasauniquehistory.Lookup
thesecommunitiesonlineandprovidesummariesoftheirhistoriesfromthetimeperiodinwhichyourfamily
livedinthearea.Youmaywanttoincludemajorindustriesoreventsthatmadethesecommunitiesspecial.
ResearchandsummarizeTWOcommunitiesinwhichyourgrandparentswereborn.Youshouldciteatleast
twosourcesforeachcommunitysummary.

7.Autobiography
Write

anautobiographyaboutyourself.ItmustbeONEpageinlength.Includeaphoto
collageofyourchildhoodyearsonaseparatepage.

8.BioPoems
Writeabiopoemfortwofamilymembersthatappearonyourfamilytree.Besuretoincludea
photographofeach.Thesebiopoemscannotbewrittenaboutthesamepeopleasdetailedinthetwo
biographies.WewilldiscusshowtowriteabiopoeminclassduringtheweekafterSpringBreak.

9.FamilyRecipe
Identifyafamilyrecipethathasbeenanimportantpartofyourfamilyscelebrationsor
traditions.Includethisrecipeandastoryaboutwhyitissignificanttothemembersinyourfamily.Therecipe
shouldincludethenameofthefood,categoryoffood,ingredients,directions,andapictureofthefood.

10.InterviewwithOldestMemberofyourFamily
Interviewamemberofyourfamilywhoisatleast60
yearsold.Decideon
atleast15questions
touseduringtheinterview.

Youmustincludeaphotoofthis
person(ifyouinterviewinperson,takeaphototogether).Referencethequestionsanddirectionsfor
interviewingdistributedtoyoutoguideyourconversationswiththisfamilymember.Takenoteswhile
interviewingbyrecordingtheiranswersunderthequestionsthatyouhavepretyped(suggestionsforquestions
