MY ASSESSMENT LIST
Name of FS Student: Jolina V. Macaranas
Course: Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in MathematicsYear & Section: MATH 3-1
Cooperating School: Malinta National High School

Your Target
At the end of this activity, you will be keen at identifying and naming different
assessment methods used in the classroom.

Your Map
To be aware of the assessment tools that are used in the classrooms, you will find
interest in observing teachers assessment practices.
To hit your target, work your way through this steps.
Step 5: Reflect on your experience
.
Step 4: Confer with your FS teacher
your assessment list.
Step 3: Describe how each assessment
method was used, including your personal
observations.
Step 2: In your list, classify assessment methods
as to conventional and authentic/alternative.
Step 1: Observe at least three classes and make a list of
the assessment methods used by teachers.

Your Tools
As you visit schools and observe assessment practices in at least three classes,
document your observations using the activity forms provided for you in this book. For
your pen-and-paper test items, customize a table of specification, and prepare the test
material based on the prescriptions of the school where you do class observation.
CLASS 1 OBSERVATION SHEET
(To be used during the actual observation of the class)
Name of the School Observed: Malinta National High School
Year Level: Grade 9
Subject Area: Mathematics
Assessment Tools
DESCRIPTION
(Bulleted description of how the assessment method is
used relative to subject matter, levels of learning
behaviour, length, etc.)

1. Oral Recitation

2. Seatwork/ Quiz/
Test

a) It helps students absorb and

retain information upon which
understanding and critical thought
is based.
b) It builds student motivation and
interest by having them
participate along with the teacher.
c) Repeated question can help them
not just memorize but also
understand.
d) It helps them understand the
abstract world of Math.

a. Traditional examination uses pen

and paper.
b. It is quiet good because you can
see the diversity of students by
their solutions.
c. Prone to guessing and cheating.

Conventional Types
DESCRIPTION OF HOW ASSESSMENT METHOD
WAS USED
(Please include your personal observations and
comments below the description.)

1. Seatwork

2. Quiz

An assessment uses pen and paper. Assigned

to be done by the students at their desks in
their classroom without the supervision of the
teacher. The teacher uses the module.
The students tend to cheat. The teacher does
not facilitate well.
The teacher must look around to see the
students work.
An assessment uses pen and paper. Test of
knowledge, especially brief, informal test given
to students.
The teacher does not facilitate well. The
students tend to cheat.

An assessment uses pen and paper. Critical

evaluation means to determine if the students
learn the objectives. To test what they have
learned after a grading period.
Multiple choice test items are prone to
guessing. Large number of students is in fact
the reason why there are some students who
cheat because the teacher does not notice it at
all.

1. Oral Recitation

The teacher asks questions in the lower order

thinking skills. The answer is on the module.
The students are not actively engaged in the
lesson proper. Most of the students are not
listening.
All of the students should be engaged. The
question should be in the higher order thinking
skills for the students to think critically. Give
lots of example for the students to understand
the topic very well. Do not depend only on the
module.

Your Analysis
Was there a variety of assessment methods used by the teacher? How
relevant was/were the assessment methods used?

There is but I think she uses the traditional way which is now obsolete. The teachers must
be required to participate or attend seminars for them to inform in new innovation or way
of assessing students which will be very helpful for them to reach their objectives and for
the students to be actively engaged. The right assessment will be used if that happens. I
do believe that change is inevitable so being an educator you must study, study and study
to give the students right assessment to be used or conduct in the class.

Do you think the expected students learning behaviours indicated in the

objectives were properly and appropriately assessed through those assessment methods?
I think the assessment method was used does not hit the objectives. It is not properly and
appropriately assessed through those because there is a diverse student in a single
classroom and most of the students do not assessed properly because it is not appropriate
with their learning behaviours. Thats why most of the students cheat.

Your Reflections
Write your personal reflection of thoughts and feelings about the
importance in the use of appropriate assessment methods in the classroom, including
what students and teachers can gain from appropriate assessment tools. Share your
reflection with your FS teacher and classmates.

The proper assessment should be used otherwise the learning objectives failed to meet.
The teacher should reteach because of that. Students do not learn the appropriate
objectives. So it means that use an appropriate assessment method to hit your target.
Avoid the students from cheating. To help them maximize their skills and ability.
