Thepurposeofeducationisforstudentstofallinlovewithlearningandtounderstand
thatlearningisnotjustaboutgoingtoschooleachday,butlearningissomuchmoreandwill
lastalifetime.Learningiseverywhere.Learningcanbefoundinmanyplaces,inavarietyof
circumstancesandsituations.Learningdoesnotendattheconclusionofthedayinthe
classroom.Myroleasaneducatoristoteachmystudentstodiscoverthematerialtheyneedto
learnthroughprovidingavarietyoflearningopportunitiesaswellasabalancebetweenimplicit
andexplicitinstruction.Inadditiontoinstruction,itiskeythatasaneducatortobeenthusiastic
aboutschoolandtoencouragestudentstoseetheirindividualpotential.Toaccomplishthisasa
teacher,Iwillbethefacilitatoroflearninginmyclassroom.WiththatbeingsaidIwantstudents
toworkcollaborativelywithrealworldsituationsinordertofurthertheirknowledge.Iwanteach
studentinmyclassroomtoleaveknowingthattheyarevalued,believedin,andaregoingto
makeapositivedifferenceinthisworld.Mygoalformystudentsisforthemtobecome
independentthinkersandgivetheirbesteveryday.
Noonestudentisthesame,theyarealluniqueandholdimmensepotential.Ibelievethat
childrenlearnbestwhenpresentedwithavarietyoflearningstyles.Itisgoingtobeimportant
forthemtoexperiencedifferenttypesofteachingmethodsbecauseinlifetheyaregoingtohave
tofacediversesituationsandlearnhowtohandlethem.
Inmyopinion,curriculumshouldbe
studentfocusedandappealtothevaryinglearningstylesofmystudents.Structureand
organizationwillbeconsistentcomponentsofdailyclassschedulesasteachingshouldbe
intentional
.Planningshouldbepurposefulinordertomosteffectivelyreachallstudentsand
theirvariedlearningstyles.Ibelievestudentsaremostsuccessfulwhenusinghandsonmethods
oflearningandalsothroughworkingingroups.Collaborationiscriticalinstudentslearningto
worktogetherasateamandinlearninglifelongcommunicationskills.
Iplanonhavingstrongrelationshipswithparents,thecommunity,otherteachers,andthe
administration.Thesepeoplewillallbeintegralinenhancingstudentslearningand
opportunities.Alloftheseindividualswillbeanimportantresourceandsupportsystemin
effectivelyrunningaclassroomandsupportingstudentstobecomethebesttheycanbe.
Diversitycantakemanyformsaseachstudentisuniqueandisgoingtolearnintheir
ownway.Basedonmyexperiencesthusfardiversitytakesmanyformsandispresentineach
andeveryclassroom.Iplanonreachingthediversepopulationbyusingavarietyofteaching
methodsandassessmentstobestmeettheneedsofmystudents.Differentiationisanimportant
componentofmyteachingpracticeandiscrucialinmeetingtheneedsofeachandeverystudent.
Bothformativeandsummativeassessmentsplayanimportantroleinmyteaching
practice.Ibelievethatassessmentdrivesinstruction.Assessmentprovidesvaluableinformation
aboutstudentlearninginformalandinformalways.Datacollectedfromassessmentswill
provideinformationonthestudentsindividuallyandtheclassasawhole.Thisdatacanthenbe
usedtodirectandfurtherinstructiontomeetstudentsindividualneeds.
Mygoalformystudentsisforthemtobecomethebesttheycanbeinallaspectsoflife.I
believethroughtheclassroomcommunity,handsonlearningexperiences,andcollaboration
studentswillachievethisgoal.ThequoteIwanttodailykeepinmindis,Everychilddeservesa
champion:anadultwhowillnevergiveuponthem,whounderstandsthepowerofconnection
andinsiststheybecomethebesttheycanpossiblybe.RitaPiersonMycareerisnotonlyabout
educatingstudents,butaboutmyselfgrowingasanindividualeachdayandcontinuallylearning
frommystudentsandenvironmentsaroundme.
