DAY ONE: AN APPLE A DAY...

The first day of camp will focus on healthy eating and exercise. Using MyPlate and food labels, campers will learn
how to create healthy meals and how poor nutrition affects the body. We will also stress the importance of daily
physical activity and the health benefits associated with exercise. Following the lesson, there will be a hands-on meal
prep activity where the children will prepare a healthy snack. As the day wraps up, our health educator will lead the
campers in a short Zumba class.

DAY TWO: SAFETY SMARTS

The second day of camp will be all about safety and injury prevention. The lesson will teach the vital importance of the
brain and spinal cord as they relate to bike, water, vehicle, and sports safety.Campers will learn to think first before
engaging in dangerous situations. Public service employees play a large role in keeping the community safe on a daily
basis. After the class, the children will have a chance to meet members of the local fire department, police department
and Guilford County EMS while exploring their vehicles.

DAY THREE: PLAQUE IS WHACK

Dental hygiene will be the topic of conversation for the third day of camp. High Point Regionals very own pediatrician,
Dr. Robert Poth, will give his recommendations for a healthy smile as well as discuss the consequences of poor oral
care.

DAY FOUR (DEPENDING ON THE CAMPERS AGE):

1) Sense-Abilities (Grades K-2): You use them every day to get to know and understand the world around you. What
are they? Your senses! The five senses seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and touching help us to learn about our
surroundings. The fourth day of camp will consist of an overview of our five senses, as well as a variety of interactive
activities designed to help campers explore each of them separately.
2) Count on Me to Be Drug Free (Grades 3-5): Our older campers will learn about the effects of alcohol, tobacco and
marijuana and how these substances are harmful to growing bodies. We will discuss peer pressure, refusal skills as
well as how advertising and the media portray the use of drugs. They will learn that a lifetime of health and happiness
depends on making the right choices. In addition, a K-9 officer from the High Point Police Department will do a drug
detection demonstration as well as discuss the legal consequences that accompany drug use.

DAY FIVE: MEAN STREETS

American schools harbor approximately 2.1 million bullies and 2.7 million of their victims. The HealthyU Summer
Camp will wrap up with a full day of bully prevention. We will focus on bringing awareness to the inappropriate
behavior of bullying as well as the different types of bullying and how to deal with tormenters. A member of the High
Point Regionals outpatient behavior health department will speak about the mental and physical consequences of
bullying. Campers will learn to build self-esteem, develop resiliency and establish a culture of kindness at their school.
* On the days where time permits, campers will have an opportunity to play in our Wellness Discovery Room which
has an X-Box Kinect, IPads, Dance Revolution and much more!
* Week One campers will be designing and drawing a wall mural for Millis with the help of Frances Griffith,
Art Therapist from Theatre Art Gallery. Week Two campers (July 18 July 27) will be painting and
sealing the mural.
