pieceofartandtoseeitinworkingprocesswasatreatitself.Thebillingsystemat
MEPCO is designed to calculate and disseminate bills and to store these bills in
the data base and to use them for further use. MEPCO has fine organizational
structure and a well defined fully working effective system that helps and aids
managerstodotheirjobatbest.Ourknowledgewasfurtherenlightenwhenwe
hadsomeofthelecturesfromtheseniorsmanagersofMEPCO,theyknewquitea
lotabouttheorganizationandthesubjectandtheyleftnostoneunturnedtolet

1.1 About MEPCO


Multan Electric Power Company is one of the biggest Distribution Company of
WAPDA, its area of operation is from Sahiwal to Sadiqabad, Bahawalnager to
Bahawalpur and Tounsa Sharif to Rajanpur and bordering with Sind, Balochistan and
NWFPMap.
TheCharterofMEPCOistoprovidethereliability,qualityandsafetyofelectric
powersupplytotheconsumersinitsJurisdiction.
MEPCOisenvisagedforthecreationoftheresourcesandengineeringplansfor
additions,renovationandaugmentationofthedistributionsysteminordertoachieve
charter.
MEPCOisputtingeffortstomakeitaviableandprogressiveutilitytotakecareof
consumer'spowerdemand.
Following MEPCO Officers will sit at MEPCO Regional Complaint Centre,
KhanewalRoadMultanbetween1000to1200hrsontheweekdaysmentionedagainst
each to receive the complaints regarding electricity. They will issue orders at the spot
wherepossibleforimmediatedisposalofcomplaints:

History of MEPCO

WAPDA
The electricity supply service in Pakistan, initially, was undertaken by different
agencies, both in public and private sectors, in different areas. In order toprovide for
theunifiedandcoordinateddevelopmentofthewaterandpowerresources,Waterand
Power Development Authority (WAPDA) was created in 1958 through WAPDA Act,
1958.

AreaElectricityBoardMultan
The local areas electricity distribution service was being performed by various
RegionsofWAPDA.ThentheAreaElectricityBoard(AEB)Multan,ontheeightAEBsin
Pakistan,wasestablishedundertheschemeofAreaElectricityBoardsin1982,inorder
to provide more autonomy and representation to provincial government, elected
representatives, industrialists,agriculturalists and other interest groupsin functions of
theAEBs.

MEPCO
Theenvironmentandstructureofthepowerindustrythroughouttheworldare
undergoing dramatic change. The power sector is moving from monopoly to
privatizationandfromintegrationtodisintegration.Tokeeppacewiththischange,the
GovernmentofPakistanapprovedaS0trategicPlanin1994asaconsequenceofwhich
the power wing of WAPDA has been unbundled into 12 Companies for generation,
transmissionanddistributionofelectricity.
MultanAreaElectricityBoardwasreorganizedintoonesuchcorporatizedentity
under the name of Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) with effect from
14.05.1998,withtheaimofcommercializationandeventuallyprivatization.
