ing or meetings. Also used as an informal entry and
exit point.
- Lobby, Entrance, Bar & Restaurant areas are united by a palette of off-form concrete and recycled timber with tinges of metal work and bronze
lightining sculpture.
- The hotel rooms are unadorned with materials like reclaimed solid oak as desks, eucalyptus strand board for cupboards, aniline leather and various
metals. Walls of the rooms is finished with rippled and hammered concrete and rugged clay-rendered texture. The final touches are weaved wool
carpets, vintage couchs and different linen for every room.
- Each of the materials used in and around the building is a honest representation of the materials which project rarefield versus disposable material.
- The timber work and external three dimensional concrete work come together around a central atrium which draws light and ventilation into the
deeper positioned hotel rooms and private residences.
- Light is the primary factor creating visual sensory experiences in the foyer and rooms be it natural or artificial.
- Each apartment is designed to maximise natural light and cross ventilation. The windows are accessible windows that can be opened which
minimise the usage of air conditioning systems in the individual rooms.
- The central atrium is negatively pressurised compared with the exterior due to wind dynamics around the building. Hence, whenever a window is
open, cross ventilation occurs through the rooms.

GRAND STAIR
- This grand dramatic entry has been created using more than 2150 pieces of recycled timber ceating a rustic and old bold yet high-tech, simple and
very complex wall and ceiling pattern. Each piece is an individual on its own due to being recycled either from a dimembered house, demolished
basket ball court or the very own building site.
- The motif continues from outside throughout the foyer and passageway as noticed in light and ventilation section.
- It links Nishi Commercial to Nishi Residential which houses 2 floors of hotel rooms.
The complex pattern is continued across walls and ceiling in the entire grand stair area and connecting areas.
The railway stop is to be integrated with its surrounding enabling the commuters to be engaged with an incidental scale of connected fine grain encounters that may act as catalyst infrastructure for urban initiatives and creative interaction. Intention within the proposal is to be embed daily routine of light
rail commuting within a configuartion of possibilities, spontaneous, connected and urban, ingrained at the street scale.
The alumni park is viewed to celebrate vibrant campus life bringing and integrating the artful union and accessible public programming.
It reflects and promotes the sense of a place interweaving into a landscape, art and architecture for a responsive site towards activity and events.
The spatial types and functions of the precinct follow a connective sequence:
ALUMNI SQUARE - a non directional urban park containing programmable surfaces of rain garden, raised turf podiums and permeable paving.
URBAN FRAME - multi functional public structure skin which comments the Alumni Square to the plaza and gardens. It also acts as a gateway
structure and is versatile in holding public gatherings as well.
RIPPLE GARDEN - fun side of the garden, getting the visitors and passerby to involve themselves physically with the landscape by creating
ripples in the surface. The public element is also known as the Slow See Saws.
THE GREEN - open green space for people to lay in or hold picnics or ceremonial events due to it being a sunny spot.
As noticed in the above artist impression, it is an integrated open glass canopy stop which provides shelter yet being part of the greater surrounding. The
light rail stop is not hindering views or interaction but running along its own corridor improving the speed and reliability of the service. The green light rail
corridor enhances the environment visually and evironmentally too instead of concrete or paving.
Design
The stops are simple in form and provide the basic necessity for comfort of the commuters:
- Shelter for commuters providing protection from the weather be it sunny or rainy.
- Passenger information display about travel time, routes or information about travel cards etc.
- Ticket machines for travel cards or tickets.
- Station signage providing wayfiding for commuters around the site and station name to identify station stop.
- Access for different commuters be it wheelchair, prams, etc.
- Bences for the commuters while waiting for their train.
