    cultureoverall.Romanwomenwouldworkveryhardforwhattheyhaveandwhattheydid.
    WomeninRomehadmoreopportunitiesthantheirsistersinGreece,butnotthesamefreedoms
    aswomeninancientEgypt.Romanwomenweredictatedonhowtheycouldbehavefromthe
    Romancodesoflaw.Inpublic,manyromanwomenhadnolife.Romanwomengenerallydid
    notneedamaleguardianorescortwhenleavingthehouse,butmostoftenwereaccompaniedby
    amale.
    Womensstatuswasfarinferiortothatofaman.Theyhadnolegalrightstoparticipate
    inpubliclifeorpolitics.ARomanwomanspropertylegalrightswereveryfew,theycouldnt
    ownpropertyonlytheirguardiancould.Butawomansstatuswouldgenerallyincreasewiththe
    morechildrenshehad.Themorechildrenyouhad,andthemorethatsurvivedinfancy,themore
    youwererespected.
    ForRomanwoman,marriagewasoneofthemostimportanteventsintheirlife.
    Marriagesweretypicallyarrangementsmadebetweentwofamilies,andtheyhadlittletono
    influenceonthedecision.Marriagewouldbeawaytotakeupmorerankinsocialclasses.
    Womenwereoftenmarriedat12.Mencouldlegallymarryat14,butwouldoftenwaituntilthey
    were30whentheyhadmoreestablishedcareers.
    TheRomanwomansprimarydutywastobethefamilycaretaker.Romanwivesand
    femaleslavesworkedlonghours,caringforchildren,andrunningthefamilyhouse.Womens
    workwoulddependontheirsocialstatus.Wealthierwomenwereabletohaveslavesdothe
    chores,whilepoorerwomenwerestuckdoingitthemselves.Armywiveswentwiththeir
    husbandswheretheylivedinforts.

    Womentypicallydidntreceiveaneducation,andwerenotabletostudylaw,medicineor
    participateinpoliticslikemales.Somewomenwereabletoearnmoney.Theycouldproduce
    crafts,andwouldworkwithwool,linenandsilk.Theywouldfindemploymentincooking,
    weavingindustriesandchildcareaswell.Womenwereabletoseektheirownemploymentif
    theywerewealthyenough,womenownedtaverns,cooked,baked,madeshoes,waitresses,as
    wellassmallnursingrolestohelpcareforbabies.
    EtruscanwomenweremuchlessrefinedthanRomanwomen.Forexample,theywould
    takegreatcareoftheirbodiesandwouldexerciseoften,anditwasntadisgraceforthemtobe
    seennaked.Theywerealsoknowntosharewivesamonghusbands,Etruscanwomenwerentas
    puttogetherastheRomanwomen.Romanwomenalsofollowedstrictguidelinesandprinciples,
    makingthemintothewomentheywere.

    ThisisjustanexampleofatypicaldayforaRomanwoman.Theywereveryfamily
    orientedandwouldtakecareoftheirhusband,andchildrenastheirnumberonepriority.Overall
    Romanwomenlivedaveryconservativelifestyleandtheywereverymuchsoaccustomedto
    thislifestyle,theywereraisedinitandtheninturnraisedtheirchildrenwithinittoo.
