The

News for St. Peters family and friends

Dear Friends in Christ,
Years ago, on Princes Street in
Edinburgh, Scotland with its beautiful setting,
one of the many shop windows displaying art
treasures in beautiful paintings attracted the eye
of a passing gentleman. He was gazing intently
at a painting of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It
had been a long time since this man had allowed
any thoughts like those suggested by the
painting to enter his mind, but the artists
portrayal brought back the memory of long
forgotten truths, and he was impressed and
troubled.

In these past weeks we have journeyed

with Jesus to Jerusalem, observing His triumphal
entry into the city, sharing in His Last Supper on
Maundy Thursday, witnessing His crucifixion on
Good Friday and His glorious resurrection on
Easter Sunday. Christ is risen! He is risen
indeed! Alleluia!

And now our resurrected and ascended

Lord sends the Holy Spirit to bless us with His
gift of faith. We are blessed! As Jesus said to
Thomas after the resurrection, Have you
believed because you have seen me? Blessed are
those who have not seen and yet have believed.
Suddenly he became aware of the - John 20:29 (ESV)
presence at
his side of a little ragged lad who
was also looking intently at the painting.
This Good News is too Good to keep to
ourselves. So like the enthusiastic Scottish boy,
Thats Jesus, sir, on the cross. They dont forget to offer this blessing from Jesus to
nailed him there with that crown of thorns on others. Tell your family, tell your friends and tell
his head, and killed him, sir. He was a good man. your neighbors: He rose again!
He died for us, and thats his mother standing
there, sir, looking at what they did to him. The God loves you, and so do I,
gentleman felt a lump rise in his throat as the
boy continuedAnd he died, sir, for our sins Pastor White
and they buried him yonder, sir. It was too real,
and the man turned away to continue his walk in
Princes Street. He felt a tugging at his coat tails.
Turning round he saw the boy who had been
telling the story standing looking into his face.
The boy blurted out breathlessly, I forgot to tell
you, sir. I forgot to tell you, he rose again.

Order of Service Change

For the six

Sundays after Easter, we will use Setting Two of
the Order of Worship in the Lutheran Book of
Worship (green hymnal). This will give us the
opportunity to learn another setting of the service
and to provide some variety during the Easter
Season. After the Easter Season, we will return to
Setting One.

Are you looking for an opportunity

to serve? We are in need of Ushers who can
help with the Sunday services as well as funerals,
special services, etc. We will have a training
meeting on Sunday, April 17 from 3:00-4:00 in
the Sanctuary to answer questions and go over
the Usher Guidelines. Anyone who is interested
in serving as an Usher or simply wants to know
more is welcome to attend.
This is a great opportunity for you to serve! Male

Weekly Bible Verses

Those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty.
John 4:14
Drops from the Well can be delivered to your phone via a text message or to your email inbox.
Drops from the Well focuses on sending out one key point or Gospel kernel with the hopes that
you read and reflect on that drop each day of the week. Every morning at the breakfast table, pray
this drop together as a family. Every night around the dinner table, use the drop as the lens
through which you recap your day. You can share highs and lows around this verse, talk about a
mistake you made and the way the Living Water, even in this little drop, helped you through.
To receive a Drop from the Well of Living Water every Sunday night:
Text the word Drops to 614-328-5636.
Or sign up for a weekly email at http://2hoots.com/users/add/59.
(Be sure to check the box for Weekly Sunday Message.)

COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS
Jenny Stone, Council Secretary
The Church Council met in the office building conference room on March 13, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.
The council minutes, treasurers report and staff reports was reviewed and approved. Council members reported
on committee activities as the committees are preparing for 2016. Ally Shealy, Jerry Richey, and Greg Webb
were absent.
The council unanimously approved that all church property (items/contents) for liability reasons and the increased
ministry needs of the church are to stay on the church property and not be loaned out/removed. The exception
would be a church related event.

Stewardship Thoughts
The Law of Purposeful Blessing
This writing comes from the 12th Chapter of the book The 33 Laws of Stewardship written by
Dave Sutherland and Kirk Nowery.
We are made rich in every way to be generous on every occasion.
This is about a young man named William Borden who was heir to the Borden Dairy fortune, yet
gave it all up to serve our Lord. William Borden, though just a young man, had learned well the
Law of Purposeful Blessing. He took full advantage of every way in which he had been made rich
in order to show generosity to others at every opportunity. Everything in his life indeed, life
itself he had dedicated to the Savior. William Borden did not live a long life, but he lived a full life
full of hope, full of grace, full of faith and full of love for God and others.
Giving on purpose begins with living on purpose. The purpose of your life should be the basis
and motivating force behind your giving. If your life purpose is to honor God and serve Him
wholeheartedly, everything you give whether it is money, time, energy, influence or some other
gift is to be an expression of that foundational purpose. There should be no conflict between
why you live and why your give: they are part and parcel of a Christ-centered continuum. If any
other motivations worm their way into your heart, and if you give in to those motivations, you will
lose the joy and the blessing. When you write a check to your church, for example, dont think
about the benefits of tax deductibility; Think about Gods blessings which enable you both to live
and to give.
Blessing others generously is a delight, not a duty. Many Christians trudge through life
burdened down by an inordinate sense of duty. Theyve been taught that God demands full
obedience and compliance with His laws, which is absolutely true; but theyve been taught in a
way that binds rather than frees. They are instilled with a view of God that leaves them
emotionally restricted instead of spiritually free. Christian obedience is not an oppressive,
burdensome thing. It is the joyous response of a grateful heart. Likewise, Christian generosity is
the natural expression of one who purposefully blesses others. It is a delight, not a duty.
Stewardship is measured qualitatively, not just quantitatively. Some would argue that
William Borden could have been a more effective steward if he had used his great wealth to
underwrite Christian ministry. They would question whether it was really logical for him to take
such a rough path when a smooth road was so readily available. However, what matters most to
God is not our logic but our love the love that denies self, takes up the cross and follows Him
unreservedly. This is what Jesus was talking about when he told a rich young man of the ruling
class to sell everything he had and give it all to the poor. Unfortunately, the young man was not
willing to take such a drastic step because he loved his possessions more than he loved God.
Christian stewardship is first and foremost a qualitative matter of the heart, not a quantitative
measurement of ones gifts.
