Welcome to Art Class

This art class aims to give you a solid foundation in the elements of art.

What will we do?

Create, refine & display artwork in a variety of


mediums
Reflect on artwork and visuals created by a variety
of cultures
Expand creative thinking and problem solving skills
Take risks, make mistakes and have fun!

WHAT ARE THE CLASS RULES?


TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF, EACH OTHER & THIS PLACE

We practice mutual respect. If a students behavior breaks this trust and respect, the teacher and

student will develop and apply a solution together. If the solution is not effective or the behavior
requires immediate disciplinary action, the teacher will follow the disciplinary code outlined in the
student handbook.

Show up to class on time and prepared.


Respect each other.
Treat art supplies, materials, and artwork with care.
Help with clean up each class.

HOW IS OUR WORK GRADED?

1.) Large Projects (50% of grade)


Approximately 3 long-term, in-class class projects
2.) Small Projects (25% of grade)
Shorter, in-class project and worksheets to build skills for large projects
3.) Reflections (10% of grade)
In-class artwork reflections, vocabulary quizzes and critiques to support large projects
4.) Sketchbook (15% of grade)
This is the only required homework for this class (max. 40 minutes a week)
Students will also take notes, practice skills and include inspirational images in their
sketchbooks

WHAT ABOUT LATE WORK, ABSENCES & TARDIES?

Make-up work for excused absence(s) is to be completed within 3 days. Students are responsible
for arranging for make-up work. Having difficulty with deadlines? Speak to Ms. Brooks BEFORE due
date for project adjustments and help. Absences and tardiness are handled following school
rules.

WHAT ABOUT CHEATING & PLAGERISM?


For the first offense, student will receive no credit on the assignment and parent will be notified.
For all subsequent offenses, student will receive no credit on the assignment, disciplinary referral
& parental notification.

WHAT ABOUT SMALL ELECTRONIC DEVICES (games, phones, music devices)?


If Ms.Brooks approves the use of electronics during a class period, students are required to use
those devices only for the specified educational purpose and immediately discontinue
electronic device use at Ms. Brooks request. Students must store electronics out of sight. If your
electronics are visible during school hours without teacher permission, they may be confiscated.
Ms. Brooks cannot be held responsible for lost or stolen devices.

me during the school day.

Copyright: Artist grants permission to Ms. Brooks to photograph or use images of student

artwork for entry into art competitions, display in a professional portfolio, display in an art tutorial
or display on a class website.
