1st Period World Geography

The ethnic breakdown of first period World

Geography is majority African American with
some Caucasian and Hispanic students as well.
There are 19 total students in this course.
About 25% of the class receives free or reduced
lunch indicating it is made up of mostly middleclass SES students.
The class is about 75% male, which needs to be
taken into account as to not let the subject matter or
discussion become too male driven.
About 60% of the class participates in after school
activities or employment which needs to be taken
into account when assigning work that should be
completed after school.
There is one student who does not have internet
access at home, which should be taken into account
when assigning work. There are no students with
IEPs/504s in first period.

2nd Period World Geography

The ethnic breakdown of second period is

more diverse than first, split about even
between Caucasian and African-American,
along with some Hispanic and mixed race
students as well. There are 23 total students in
this course.
Second period is also majority male, which
again means I must take care not to let the
content or discussion become too skewed
towards the males.
About 30% of the class receives free or
reduced lunch, which again means that the
majority of the class is made up of mostly
middle-class SES students.
More than half of the students take part in
after school activities or are employed. I must
take this into account when assigning work to
be completed outside of class.
3 students indicated that they dont have
internet access at home, which also needs to
be taken into account when assigning
homework. There is one student with an IEP
in second period who need extra time for tests
and projects.

4th Period World Geography

The ethnic breakdown of fourth period is mostly

African-American (57%) with one mixed race
student and the rest being Caucasian. There are 29
total students in this course.
Like in the previous classes, about one fourth of
students receive free or reduced lunch. Again
indicating a mostly middle class SES spread of
students.
Also, as in the case of the other World Geography
courses, a sound majority (76.2%) of students
participate in after school activities and
employment. This will limit the amount of outside
class work that will be assigned.
There is a relatively even gender split in the fourth
period class, there shouldnt be any issues with
keeping discussion and content balanced for the
class.
Two students indicated that they do not have
access to internet at home, which should be
considered when assigning work. Two students
have IEPs. One need preferential seating 50%
more time on projects and testing, and student cue
attention. The other student needs preferential
seating and 100% extra time on assignments and
testing.

3rd Period African-American Experience

The large majority of the third period African

American studies course is African-American.
There is also one mixed race Alaskan Native and
one student who is unsure about their ethnicity.
There are 27 total students in this course.
There is a relatively even split in the students
genders for this class, with males taking a slight
edge with 59.1%
A large majority of the students in this period
participate in after school activities or are
employed. There are no assignments given outside
of class, so this should not be an issue moving
forward.
Slightly less than half of the class receives free or
reduced lunch (40.9%). This indicates about an
even split between middle and lower class SES
students.
Four students indicated that they did not have
internet access at home, which should not be an
issue since there is no outside work assigned. Three
students have IEPs in third period. One student
needs projects broken into chucks. One student
needs 50% extra time for testing and writing
assignments. One student needs 100% extra time
for testing.

7th Period African-American Experience

The large majority of students in the seventh period

class are African-American (81%), with one Native
American, one Pacific Islander, and one mixed race of
Caucasian and Hispanic. There are 26 total students in
this course.
This class is majority female (62.5%) but not
overwhelmingly so.
25% of the students in seventh period receive free or
reduced lunch, which seems to be about the average
for the six classes I instruct.
A little over half of the students participate in after
school activities or employment. Again, should not be
an issue since the class does not have homework
assignments.
All students have internet access at home. Two
students in seventh period AAE have IEPs. One
student needs extended time and small group setting
for testing and assignments, as well as extra review
time. One student needs 100% extended time for
assignments, tests, and quizzes, preferential seating,
and a copy of all notes to be taken.

8th Period African-American Experience

Eighth period is also majority African-American

with one Caucasian student and one mixed race
Asian and Caucasian student. There are 26 total
students in this course.
The gender breakdown for eighth period is
relatively even, with females taking a slight edge
with 57.1%.
Over one third of the class (78.6%) participate in
after school activities or employment. Should not
be an issue with the lack of assigned homework
for this course.
Only 14.3% receives free or reduced lunch,
making it the mostly middle class SES selection
of students for any of the periods I instruct.
All students have internet access at home and
there are no IEPs or 504s for eighth period.
