LIVING CASES

A Living Case is a paper that demonstrates how a firm or organization you work for, or are part of,
dealt with a major topic, issue, concept or tool in the assigned text and Bb material. The purpose of a
Living Case is to illustrate the topic or idea, and also to show how this aspect of strategy works (or did
not work) in your industry. Living Cases add a dimension of practicality to the class, and gives
insights into a variety of issues.
Instructions
Chose an issue, idea, tool or concept from the readings assigned for the week the Living
Case is due. Use both textbook and Bb material in your paper. Cite sources using in-text APA
style. Example (Brown, 2014:16).
Do not describe the issue or concept in detail. Assume that everyone has read the material.
Describe how that issue or idea was applied, or should have been applied, in one of your work
situations. Discuss the situation in light of the assigned material for that week. Was the
situation handled well? How could it have been handled better? What other material from the
readings would be applicable - or was no material applicable? Why?
If appropriate, make suggestions for future actions. If appropriate, leave the resolution open
and present the question to the class.
Use as an example either the firm you now work for, a firm you used to work for, or a firm you
know well, such as a competitor or supplier. You may also use a not-for-profit organization you
are involved in such as a school district, church, club, or the military.
You need not name the firm if you would rather not. Do not name the people involved.
However, please describe the firm and industry well enough so readers have context for the
discussion. Example: Several years ago, I was an account executive at a medium sized
marketing firm. My boss, who I will call Peter
The paper should be roughly 6 +/- pages plus bibliography, charts, etc.
Turn in the paper through the Living Case button in the SafeAssign. Please also post your
Living Case in the discussion forum for that week. The assignment is due Monday 12:01 a.m.
on the week it is assigned.
Remember that both the DLEM
text and the required Bb material
assigned should be part of your
Living Case.

show how this issue or tool played out in a real
situation.
