Pakistan Facts and Statistics

All About Malala

Malala Yousafzai is a human rights activist
In her native Swat Valley in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
province of northwest Pakistan, the local Taliban had
at times banned girls from attending school.
Yousafzai wrote a blog under a pseudonym for the BBC
detailing her life under Taliban occupation
She was nominated for the International Children's
Peace Prize.
Helped lead to the ratification of Pakistan's first Right to
Education Bill.

Oppression by the Taliban

On the afternoon of October 9th 2012, Yousafzai boarded her school bus in the northwest Pakistani district of
Swat.
A gunman asked for her by name, then pointed a pistol at her and fired three shots.
One bullet hit the left side of Yousafzai's forehead, travelled under her skin through the length of her
face, and then went into her shoulder.
In the days immediately following the attack, she remained unconscious and in critical condition
On 12 October, a group of 50 Islamic clerics in Pakistan issued a fatw against those who tried to kill her, but the
Taliban reiterated their intent to kill Yousafzai and her father, Ziauddin Yousafzai.

Ideas and Beliefs

Malalas ideas created the Malala Fund

The Malala Fund is focused on giving girls the chance to get an education and take a stand
in what they believe in. This fund has raised millions of dollars and has provided
opportunities for many children in remote locations.
Malalas beliefs have been heard all around the world and surprised people after she was shot.
Malala believes in equal rights for all people regardless of gender and race.
She shocked many viewers of the Jon Stewart show when she stated that she did not wish
any bad to occur of the taliban gunman who shot her in the face. She just wished to tell
him how people need to communicate through peace and not violence.

Politics and Power

Countries all around the world are listening to Malala and helping make her wish come true
Malalas nobel peace prize gave her more power to reach down to other children around the
world primarily young women her age denied equal rights.
Malalas award and her voice has lead thousands of young people to believe in themselves
and to stand up for a better life and a good education as she said in her nobel peace prize
lecture....
I tell my story, not because it is unique, but because it is not. It is the story of
many girls.
