Experiment 10:
Synchronous generator characteristics

In order to study the characteristics of a synchronous generator, the open and short circuit tests are conducted using MATALB to
define the machine characteristics. Simulate using (Sim scape/ Sim powersystems) a synchronous generator with the following
parameters and driving functions:
1) Use the following block for the Synchronous generator (Synchronous Machine SI Fundamental)

2) Use the following block for the prime-mover (DC motor)

3) Use the following parameters to run your circuit:

The prime mover armature voltage is 110 V and its field voltage is 30 V (DC).
Discrete clock for Sim power systems with Ts = .00001 sec.
The simulation run time is 10 seconds.
The synchronous generator reactance is 0.62 .

Open circuit test: Draw the output voltages and currents waveforms as function of time. Then vary the generator field
voltage form 0 to 120 V in .001 steps and draw the output line to line voltage versus the field voltage.

Short circuit test: Draw the output voltages and currents waveforms as function of time. Then vary the field voltage of the
generator from 0 to 120 V in .001steps and draw the short circuit current versus the field voltage.
