Students will learn what is matter and what does it consist of. They will work in groups and have an opportunity to draw an image and describe how a solid, liquid or gas particle looks within those images. Students will create a file study folder in which they will have questions and vocabulary words on matter on index cards along with the answers on the back of index cards. Learning what is Matter and what does it consist of.
Students will work in groups and have an opportunity to draw an image and describe how a solid, liquid or gas particle looks within those images. o Students will then evaluate each others groups and ask questions on why each state of matter is different.
2. Lesson Two: Chemical and Physical Changes
Learning about Chemical and Physical Changes in the Three States of Matter. Students will be paired up in fours and take turns in coming up to the Smart Board to play an interactive game on Chemical and Physical changes. o Students will have the opportunity to evaluate a property and describe why it is a Chemical or Physical change.
3. Lesson Three: Properties of Mass and Volume
Students will work in groups to measure and find the mass and volume as well as density of a variety of properties utilizing a scale balance. o Students will learn how to measure these properties by utilizing formulas in order to obtain the answers. 4. Lesson Four: Density PowerPoint slides will be shown to the students which will demonstrate what density is as well as the formula for density and how the formula is utilized. I will pair up students in fours to do a science activity where they will create a five-layer density tower. o Each group will receive a Scientific Method sheet in which they will write in four steps how they conducted the experiment by answering questions provided in each step. 5. Lesson Five: Matter Review PowerPoint slides will be presented to the student reviewing the Matter lesson. It will be a quick review followed by a game. As a group activity a Jeopardy game will introduced. o This will allow students to review matter in different stages from easy to hard questions. In class they will create a file study folder in which they will have questions and vocabulary words on Matter on index cards along with the answers on the back of the index cards. o For homework, they will be asked to study from this folder for Mondays test.
