The goal is to receive 105 student surveys from the three major minority groups,

9th-12th grade, within the I.A.A, CO-OP, and Chaska High School. In order to achieve
this smart goal and carry out the project, a survey will have be created, a meet and greet
shall be scheduled with the local police, and the distribution of the surveys to the
schools listed above will have to be completed before April 20th.
The top priority and goal is to create and deliver the student surveys. They will be
created through surveymonkey.com. The list of questions will vary but all will relate to
the topic of stereotyping within the local Law enforcers and local minority groups. In
order to make the questions accurate and relevant, a meeting with Eder C., the project
mentor, will have to take place before spring break. By doing this, the surveys can be up
and ready to be distributed as soon as spring break is over.
I.A.A, CO-OP, and Chaska High School will be the parameter for the surveys. In
order to actually have students complete the surveys, a trip to the schools will have to be
made. An email or phone call will be sent towards the I.A.A and CO-OP. The
email/phone call will be made to ask permission to enter the building and write on each
whiteboard the link to the survey. In addition a conversation with each classroom
teacher will take place, explaining the significance of the project and how amazingly
helpful it would be for them to encourage their students to complete the survey. Within
Chaska High School, the survey link will be written on a handful of classroom
whiteboards. Other ways in which the surveys will be distributed, will be through
Facebook, Twitter, and through friends and peers.
Once the all the surveys have been received, they will be reviewed and examined.
If the results demonstrate that the students of Chaska view their local Police
Department as useful help rather than a threat, if the students verify that they have not

been treated unjust because of their ethnic background-the results would be positive. In
that case, a second smart goal would be to present the positive data to 5 Chaska Police
officers to inform them of the positive support that is coming out of Chaska High School,
I.A.A, and the CO-OP. According to the Chaska Police Department website, they
currently have 28 employees including the Police Chief. Not all 28 are officers.
Therefore the goal to present to at least 5 officers from April 20th to May 13th, 2016
should be possible.
According to a Law journal about Ethnic youth and Juvenile Justice, minority
youth have attained their poor views of officers because of their treatment by them. So
to receive positive input from a portion of three schools in the community,
approximately 105 students affirms the officers job and role in the community.
In addition if results from the survey come back mostly negative, the results
would therefore imply that students of diverse background have felt to be subjected by
the Police for being a minority. In which case the 2nd goal would still be applied. The
negative data would be presented to 5 Chaska Police Officers to inform them about the
negative viewpoints that students from Chaska High, I.A.A, and CO-OP have of them.
Hopefully this date would help the local police department change the actions and
viewpoints, resulting in better outcomes and attitude towards the minority groups of
Chaska.
