xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx, I am writing to apply for the adjunctive faculty position in the dental hygiene department at xxxxx. I am currently working towards my master degree in dental hygiene at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). I am writing my research capstone project on California Dental Hygienists Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices related to screening for Temporomandibular Joint disorders. I expect to complete my capstone project and get my master degree by June 9th. Being an adjunctive faculty member will provide a paralleled opportunity to develop my skills as a teacher and mentor. As my curriculum vitae illustrates, I have pursued every available opportunity to teach. I am currently an adjunctive faculty at UOP dental school for the periodontal department for Dr.Lundergan in the ICS perio instrumentation classes; I spend a lot of time with first year dental students for their instrumentation hand skill development. My students told me that I was very patient about demoing the techniques and they are enjoying having me there to help them. Ever since I stared teaching at the UOP dental school, I have been passionate in my commitment to three things: interprofessinal collaboration, effective feedback, and interactive teaching strategies. Since I am a registered dental hygienist, by teaching the first year dental students can help them better understand about what the dental hygienes role is in a dental team as well as ergonomic impotence as a clinician. By the end of each clinic lab section, my students can be able to recognize the perio instruments they had been taught and adopt the correct way by practicing on each other. Some of my students realize the importance of the dental hygiene role in a dental team, at the beginning they tell me that they think a dental hygienist is a person who just cleans others teeth like a type of mouth janitor . When I started my teaching job there. But, now after a year of being in this teaching position, I let my students realize that the dental hygienists value is not only cleaning patients teeth, but educate patients about their oral health. Finally, my qualifications include my BS and MS degrees in dental hygiene and current adjunctive faculty position at University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. My MS program at UCSF makes me better prepared to go forward on teaching the position. I am passionate about my new career. I am looking forward to becoming a dental hygiene educator in life and I hope our dental hygiene committee will grow with my humble contribution.
