Eng. Dr. Dorothy Okello is a Senior Lecturer with the Department of Electrical and Computer
Engineering at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT) - Makerere
University, Kampala, Uganda. She is also Principal Researcher with netLabs!UG (formerly the
Community Wireless Resource Centre CWRC), a research centre within the Department whose
model is to strive for a balanced critical mass of basic research, applied research, innovation
and commercialisation in the area of telecommunications and networking. Eng. Dr. Okello has
over twenty years experience in teaching and research as well as in conducting and managing
projects plus contributing to policies and regulation in the information and communication
technologies (ICT) sector at national and international levels. She holds a B.Sc. Eng. (Electrical First Class Hons.) from Makerere University, an M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University
of Kansas, United States (Fulbright Scholar), and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from McGill
University, Montreal, Canada (Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship Recipient).
Eng. Dr. Okello is a member of UIPE, and is duly registered with the Engineers Registration Board
(ERB). She is a member of the UIPE Council where she currently serves as Vice President Electrical
Division, and where she has served on a number of committees including the National Technology
Forum Committee (NTF), the National Technology Conference Organising Committee (NTC), and
the Membership, Education and Training Committee (MET). Eng. Dr. Okello is also a member of
the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and has been appointed by the IEEE
President Barry Shoop to the 2016 IEEE Ad Hoc Committee on Activities in Africa (AHCAA). The
AHCAAs charter is to enhance IEEE's engagement in Africa in support of advancing technology
for humanity.
In seeking your vote as UIPE President 2016-2018, I commit to boosting UIPE membership and
engineers recognition in national discourse. As UIPE President 2016-2018, I commit to promote
advancement of engineering and professional development of UIPE members, to strengthen UIPE
membership and foster further interactions amongst us, and to further UIPE as a leading voice on
engineering matters. Together we can!
