Introduction
GPS- American Global Navigation satellite system (GNSS).
GLONASS - Russian GNSS.
BeiDou-Chinese GNSS.
Galileo-European GNSS.
QZSS-Japanese GNSS.
IRNSS- Indian GNSS.
IRNSS is an independent regional navigation satellite system being developed by India.
It is designed to provide accurate position information service to users in India as well
as the region extending up to 1500 km from its boundary, which is its primary service
area. An Extended Service Area lies between primary service area and area enclosed by
the rectangle from Latitude 30 deg South to 50 deg North, Longitude 30 deg East to 130
deg East.
IRNSS will provide two types of services, namely, Standard Positioning Service (SPS)
which is provided to all the users and Restricted Service (RS), which is an encrypted
service provided only to the authorised users. The IRNSS System is expected to provide
a position accuracy of better than 20 m in the primary service area.
ISRO-nodal agency
Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) is
an independent, indigenously developed satellite
navigation system fully planned, established and
controlled by the Indian Space Research Organization
(ISRO).
As part of the project, ISRO opened a new satellite
navigation center within the campus of ISRO
Deep Space Network(DSN) atByalalu, inKarnatakaon
28 May 2013.
Expected total cost of project-1420crorewith the cost
of the ground segment 300 crore.
PSLV-C22/IRNSS-1A
PSLV-C24/IRNSS-1B
PSLV-C26/IRNSS 1C
PSLV-C27/IRNSS 1D
Lift mass-1425 kg
Launch Date: Saturday, March 28, 2015
Launch Vehicle:PSLV-C27
Power-Ultra Triple Junction solar cells generate about
1660 Watts.
Propulsion system- Liquid Apogee Motor (LAM) and
thrusters.
Location-sub Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit with a284
km perigee (nearest point to Earth) and 20,650 km
apogee (farthest point to Earth) with an inclination of
19.2 deg with respect to the equatorial plane.
PSLV-C31/IRNSS-1E
Lift mass-1425 kg
Launch Date: Wednesday, January 20, 2016
Launch Vehicle:PSLV-C31/IRNSS-1E
two types of payloads navigation payload and ranging payload.
The navigation payload of IRNSS-1E will transmit navigation service
signals to the users. A highly accurate Rubidium atomic clock is part of
the navigation payload of the satellite.
The ranging payload of IRNSS-1E consists of a C-band transponder
which facilitates accurate determination of the range of the satellite.
The remaining two satellites of this constellation, namely, IRNSS-1F and
1G are scheduled to be launched by PSLV by the end of March 2016,
thereby completing the entire Phase 1 IRNSS constellation.
Applications
Terrestrial, Aerial and Marine Navigation
Disaster Management
Vehicle tracking and fleet management
Integration with mobile phones
Precise Timing
Mapping and Geodetic data capture
Terrestrial navigation aid for hikers and travellers
Visual and voice navigation for drivers
Satellites can be used for precision guiding of missiles, bombs and aircraft.
Troops can use satellite data to carry out precise wartime or peace keeping
operations and can locate themselves and others easily.
