Writing Task 2 Band 9 Checklist

The following is a list of things you must be able to do in order to get a Band 9 in IELTS
Writing Task 2. They are based on the Official IELTS Marking Criteria.

1. Fully address all parts of the task with relevant ideas.
2. Write an introduction that paraphrases the question and makes your opinion very
clear.
3. Fully develop main ideas in supporting paragraphs with clear explanations and
specific examples.
4. Present a clear and consistent position throughout the essay.
5. Skilfully manage paragraphing and use an appropriate structure.
6. Sequence ideas in a logical way.
7. Use cohesion in a way that it attracts no attention.
8. Write a conclusion that summarises your main ideas and reiterates your opinion.
9. Use a wide range of vocabulary, with very natural control, only rare minor
mistakes.
10. Use a wide range of grammar structures with fully flexibility and accuracy, only
making rare minor errors.
