Taylors Creek Media Center Mission Statement

It is the belief of the Liberty County Board of Education that students should be offered the best
educational opportunities possible and that the Media Center shares in that responsibility.

In keeping with this belief, the Liberty County School System has adopted the following
philosophy:

The belief that in a free society each individual is free to determine for him/herself
what he/she wishes to read, view, hear, and that each group is free to determine what
it will recommend to its members. It is inevitable that in the give and take of the
democratic process the political, the moral, or the aesthetic concepts of an individual
or group will occasionally collide with those of another individual or group.

The belief that schools should contribute to the development of the social, intellectual,
and moral values of students.

The belief that our schools are concerned with generating an understanding of
American freedoms and the preservation of these freedoms through the development
of informed and responsible citizens.

The belief that students should have access to materials that will enrich and support

the curriculum, taking into consideration the varied interests, abilities, and maturity
levels of the pupils served.

The belief that materials should be available that are representative of the many
religious, ethnic, and cultural groups and their contributions to our American heritage.

The belief that the provision of a comprehensive collection requires that principle
be placed above personal opinion in the selection of materials of the highest
quality.

The belief that students should have access to materials which treat various sides of
controversial issues so that young citizens may develop, under guidance, the practices
of critical reading, viewing, listening, and thinking.

The belief that a teacher, as a teacher, has a special position in the training and
guidance of the young and that he/she must assume a special responsibility in selecting
the kinds of materials he/she chooses to promote.

Analysis
The purpose of the Media Center at Taylors Creek Elementary School is to ensure that
the school community has access to, can use, and maneuver 21st century digital tools and
resources in order to research information, recieve content knowledge to fulfill common and
individual educational needs and requirements. The desire is to allow individual and intellectual

freedom of choice while also adapting to new digital literacies and electronic information. They
have high expectations of their students and aspire to prepare students to function in a high-tech
society and to be successful global citizens now and in the future. Their ambition is also to
introduce its members to information technology and teach them how to utilize and retrieve
different types of information using various types of media.

Taylors Creek promotes research-based learning and education, while directly addressing
the need to provide access to materials that will enrich and support students by the use of a
curriculum that is geared toward the specific needs and abilities of the learners within the school.
Since the learners needs are a priority, they believe that it is essential for all learners to have
materials readily available that express the diverse population of students. The mission describes
in detail how crucial it is for their school to hold materials of the highest quality.

Another goal is to encourage learners to become respectable citizens by offering

materials that address different sides of debatable issues to further extend their knowledge and
skills through reading, viewing, listening, and thinking. The Media Centers educational
philosophy is conducive to meeting all learners needs. The statement that students should have
access to materials that will enrich and support the curriculum, taking into consideration the
varied interests, abilities, and maturity levels of the pupils served concludes that every learner
and their needs are a priority to Taylors Creek Elementary.

The Media Center strives to enable the learner to build knowledge in all areas. The goal
is to ensure that all facets of learning are covered and will contribute to the development of the

social, intellectual, and moral values of students. Taylors Creek Elementary is committed to
ensuring that the Media Center will produce lifelong learners. The mission statement includes
concerns of promoting patriotism, religion, and current events. The Media Center focuses on a
free society where each individual is free to determine for him/herself what he/she wishes to
read, view, hear, and that each group is free to determine what it will recommend to its
members. This freedom will allow the learners to engage in opportunities that will allow the
learner to embrace their own learning and therefore dive into a deeper level of learning.
