CODE OF ETHICS

Code of Ethics

According to college of human development and community service (n.d.), A

school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all students
by advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a school culture and instructional program
conducive to student learning and staff professional growth (instructional
leadership, para. 1). Through rigorous research and reflection, I have developed a
personal code of ethics. I will return to this code as considered necessary throughout
my professional career to ensure its professional significance, and to make any required
modifications, as this will give me confidence as I continue the profession of education
administrator. When modifying the code many factors of my personal and professional
life lead to me making the changes. After having my daughter my code changed in the
area of decision-making. I now think about things from the point of view of the parent as
well as the educator. The planning and support of the code will identify me as an
educational leader and is to be use as my professional guiding reference. According
to ehow (2010), School principals are professionals who have committed to a set of
ethical standards that require placing the good of others above self-interest. Principals
hold a position of authority that requires adherence to a higher standard of behavior
than is expected of the public. Principals have the responsibility to establish an
atmosphere of equality and academic excellence in the schools they oversee. Below
you will see that my code of ethics is divided into five different sub topics. The sub
topics are Decision Making, Personal gain, Educational Equality, and Intimidation.

CODE OF ETHICS

Decision Making: Included in this aspect of my code of ethics I have created

and implemented how and what will make me come to a particular decision. As a
Principal, I will always keep with the "well-being of students" in mind. All of my decisions
are to be supported by the main beliefs of truthfulness and sincerity. In every situation
that requires me to make a decision, I will but my self-interest to the side and become
colorblind to the situation. Only after hearing and considering all sides of the issue will I
come to a decision. Principals need to provide measured and considered responses to
situations, not snap decisions that lead to other problems. (Code of Ethics for
Principals, para. 1-5).
Personal Gain: As a Principal, I will have the power to manipulate in the school
and the community surrounding the school. This influence will not be used for my own
personal gain in political, social, or business associations. I will be principal committed
to serving others rather than myself. Instead, I will be dedicated to using that personal
influence for the benefit of students in forms of community involvement with school
activities and donations for the school. The schools monies, equipment and facilities will
never be used in a way that benefits me personally.
Educational Equality: As a leader of the school, I will make sure that my highly
qualified teachers and assistants are creating an atmosphere that is conducive to
learning. During our opening school year staff meetings I will make sure everyone on
the campus understands that every student has a right to free and fitting public
education without regard to race, religion, social status, or disability. I will try to have
every member of the staff maintain a form of colorblindness. Color-blindness, the

CODE OF ETHICS

ideology that "race should not matter" in how individuals are treated, is often confused
with "race does not matter" (Neville, 2000).Every student will have access to whatever
the school offers regardless of financial situation, or any other diversity that they may
have.

Intimidation: A Principal must maintain professional relationships free from

unkindness, intimidation, and criticism. My current principal as inspired this aspect of my
ethics code. She intimidates everyone at the school with her quick comebacks and her
ability to correct your grammar on anything you write or say. Her lack of professional is
and rapor is why I drive to make myself as close to my code of ethics as possible. I will
do the opposite of her lead and never use person angers against my co-workers in
forms of revengeful acts. I will show how professional I am on and off campus and only
conduct, myself in way that I will not be ashamed of later on in life. As a principal, I will
be conscious of the consequences of every word or action taken during the time I am on
official duties.

If I truly stick to these codes of ethics, I will have an easier time making
decision, and relating with my staff, learning community and students. As I grow as an
individual, I will always refer to my code and take notes on what does and does not
work for me.
