Curriculum
1. Write classroom lessons including objectives, learning activities, and discussion

2. Utilize various methods of evaluating what students have learned in classroom lessons.

1. Describe the context in which these artifacts were collected and identify the standard and
competency(s) the artifact represents.

The artifacts chosen for standard 10, curriculum were collected through coursework at Buena
Vista University. The competencies that I will be addressing with the artifacts are 1, write
classroom lessons including objectives, learning activities, and discussion questions; 2, utilize
various methods of evaluating what students have learned in classroom lessons; 3, demonstrate
competency in conducting classroom and other large group activities, utilizing an effective
lesson plan design, engaging students in the learning process, and employing age appropriate
classroom management strategies; 4, design a classroom unit of developmentally appropriate
learning experiences; and 5, demonstrate knowledge in writing standards and benchmarks for
curriculum.
Both lesson plan artifacts were collected through coursework at Buena Vista University and both
will address competencies 1-5.
2. What do they demonstrate to you about your learning and mastery of the competencies which
fall under this standard?
Both of the lesson plans were written by me, Leah Fonua and I believe them to show my ability
to write classroom lesson plans that contain objectives, learning activities and discussion
questions. Each lesson has unique and individual methods for evaluating what the students have
learned and demonstrate competency in conducting large group lessons and design.
3. What do these items of evidence tell you about your overall progress toward your personal
goals and your growth as a professional school counselor?
I really enjoy writing lesson plans and creating lessons to match the students needs, individually
or as a group. I think that these lesson plans show my ability to write plans for different
categories and for different ages using standards and benchmarks. I am open-minded and enjoy
trying new approaches and lessons to make the teaching most effective.
4. What are your plans for additional growth or improvement in this area?
My plans for additional growth in the area of standard 10 are to continue to seek out professional
development opportunities on the subject. I will continue to write and develop curriculum and
lesson plans. I will keep all lesson plans accessible in order to utilize in the future and to be able
to look back at and learn from. New ideas and ways to teach lessons and develop curriculum are
consistently evolving so I will be sure to stay up to date on new developments.
