Lesson Objectives (i.e. anticipated outcomes of this lesson, in point form beginning with an action verb)
As a result of this lesson, students will be able to:

Identify different areas within the global and economic environment where database systems are employed;
Share and communicate ideas with others using different mediums;
Critically analyse textual responses and provide constructive feedback;
Briefly explain the difference between a Flat File Database and a Relational Database;
Create tables using MS Access;
Explain the importance of data formats when developing databases;
Create forms using MS Access; and
Identify and apply the appropriate view when creating tables and forms within MS Access.

Teachers Prior Preparation/Organisation:

Create discussion question using Poll Everywhere ready for

students arrival.
Develop a Flat File Database scenario for class to progress
through.
Develop a working Flat File Database solution.
Have sample data ready for Flat File Database.
Establish chat session in Stinto prior to students arrival to class.
Add Stinto unique URL to class Dropbox prior to students arrival
to class.
Develop and add to class Dropbox, group allocations for
students when working through Flat File Database scenario.

Provision for students at educational risk:

Use of Poll Everywhere to allow students to view each

others responses.
Students to be paired together when working through Flat
File Database scenario.
Use of Stinto to allow students to view each others
questions, provide solutions and see teachers responses.

Each of the examples we have discussed can fall into two main types of
databases: a Flat File Database or a Relational Database. A Flat File
Database is .
There are a number of differences between a Flat File Database and a
Relational database. Some of these are .

0927

Where and how are databases used in society?

I want you to open the link provided in the class Dropbox and provide a
response to the question. When answering include your name with your
response.

Teacher and students assign appropriate data type to each field and enter
sample data into table.

MS Access

Teacher to demonstrate to students how to develop a form for the scenario using Form
View and Form Wizards.

Students to develop a form for given scenario and add three more records to database.

Students to take notes.

Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)

Today we have looked at:

Where and how databases are used within our society;

We have identified that a Flat File Database is ; and
We have listed some of the differences between a Flat File
Database and a Relational Database. (I.e. )

We have started to work through developing a Flat File Database and we

will continue doing this into the next lesson.

All Poll Everywhere responses and Stinto questions/answers and additional

support material will be available in our class Dropbox before the start of the
