STAGE 3: LEARNING PLAN (Breakdown of lessons, timeline, materials, resources, etc.)


Day 1:
Hook: Show Before He Cheats A Teacher Parody YouTube Video from

Warm Up: Emphasize to students that they are all creators. Ask them to think about times they
recorded an idea they had. Ask: How did you show or could you have shown, that your idea belonged
to you and not someone else? Ask: How would you feel if someone pretended that your work was
theirs?
Activity 1: Ask: Has anyone heard of the term plagiarism before? Define plagiarism. Share with
students your schools official policy on plagiarism and its consequences. Also, share with students
your classroom policy about plagiarism and how you would handle it (if different from your school
policy). Ask: Why is it important not to plagiarize? Tell students another reason not to plagiarize is
so they show respect for work and ideas that others create. Define respect.
Activity 2: Show Google Slide Presentation Whose Is It Anyway? Explain to students that one
way they can show respect is to give credit when they use other peoples work. And one way to credit
is by providing a citation. Define citation. Show an example of a citation to students. Emphasize to
students that they should include citations in a report, project, or presentation as a formal way to give
credit to other peoples work they use. Citations also help others find the information that students
have drawn from in their work. Citations are usually found in the footnotes or bibliography section of
a report or book.

Day 2:
Warm Up: Show a BrainPop video on Copyright.

1 about Plagiarism and Copyright.
Activity 1: Distribute the Plagiarism Assignment Directions and Plagiarism Noteguide. (See
Appendix) Discuss with the students the directions. Allow students to complete research on
Plagiarism and Copyright. Students who have successfully completed their research may begin
working on their PowerPoint or Google Slide presentation.
Day 3:
Warm Up: Show students examples of citing sources. Make sure to point out what information needs

to be included in the citation.


Activity 1: Allow students to continue research. Students who are finished with their research may
work on their presentations.
Day 4:
Warm Up: Distribute the Okay or No Way? Student Handout and instruct the students to complete it
with a partner. Invite the students to share their answers.
Activity 1: Select some exemplar presentations from the class and allow them to share. Students who
are not finished with their presentations will be allowed to continue to work on them following the
presentations.
Wrap Up: Ask what is plagiarism? Why is it important to provide citations for the work you use?
When is it okay to use someone elses words or ideas?
Day 5:
Assess: Students will complete the Whose is it, Anyway? assessment using a Google Form.
Activity 1: If time permits, have the some more students share their presentations.
Needs for Diverse Learners:
Students will be provided with accommodations based on their IEPs or 504 plans for the assessment
activity. Accommodations include: read questions and answers aloud, small group/quiet testing
environment, and read directions only.
Students will be provided with the following accommodations during the activities prior to testing:
preferential seating, restate/rephrase directions, chunking directions/assignments, paper handouts, and
paraprofessional support.

Plagiarism Assignment Directions


1. Log on to the computer and open an Internet browser.
2. Go to the website: http://www.scoop.it/t/ethical-use-of-information-bybrad-boykin
3. Watch at least one video about plagiarism.

4. Then, use as many websites as needed to answer each of the questions


on your note guide. Hint: Each of the websites have most of the
information you need to answer the questions. However, you will have to
go to more than one to answer ALL of the questions. During your
research, you may be able to elaborate on your answers. This will help
you when you make your presentation.
5. When you believe you have the best answer possible for each question,
you may begin to make your presentation. Be sure to create a title slide
with your First Name and Last Initial. Also be sure that you create a slide
at the end of the presentation that shows where you got your information
from.
6. When you finish your presentation, email it to Mrs. Lee or share from your
Google Drive.
