Pressed Steel Tank

Pressed Steel Tank

Pressed Steel Tank is very popular
Ease in erection
Facility in transport
Standard and fast construction
Ease in dismantling and erection

Widely used for

Storage of cold and hot water (40 0-1000C)

Types of Tank

Type 1 All flanges external

Type 2 All flanges internal
Type 3 Bottom flanges internal and side flanges external
Each of the tank will be open top or closed top

Pressed Steel Tank

Pressed Steel Tank
Design in accordance with IS 804 -1998
Height of the tank should be less than 5m
Formed by joining pressed mild steel plates
Size of the plate 1.25m X 1.25m
Two ways of formation of the plates
Heated uniformly in a furnace and formed in a
press
Pressed cold

Pressed Steel Tank

Joining of the plate
By means of Hexagonal, black finished bolts
12mm for capacity of 1.25cu.m
14mm for capacity higher than 1.25cu.m
Spacing < 80mm

Plates are joined together at the flanges 40

to 60mm wide
Pressed square
Pressed partly square and partly at an angle
of 450
Corners are welded and no development of
crack on cooling

Stay arrangement
All the four sides of the tank supported at the
junction of two or more plates
Stays connecting the side plates to the bottom
plates are called diagonal stays. These are so
arranged so as not to intersect each other.
Stays connecting the two square sides are called
horizontal stays. These may be omitted if the
top cover acts as an effective tie.
Stays are made of mild steel rolled sections
usually rods.
Stays are bolted to the flanges or to the mild steel
cleats attached to the tank plates.

The edges of the flanges should be finished
flush with each other
All the joints are made leak proof by
proving a material insoluble in the liquid to
be stored and capable of withstanding any
temperature variations in the stored liquid.

FLANGE JOINT (SQUARED)

Pressed Steel Tank

Supporting arrangement
By supporting the tank over rolled steel joists forming
beams and architraves mounted on dwarf pillars

Pressed Steel Tank

Supporting arrangement
By providing dwarf walls of brick or concrete with footings
to suit the depth of tank and nature of the ground.
Dwarf wall for 3.75m to 5m deep tanks should have a mild
steel capping plate to provide bearing surface on the wall.

Pressed Steel Tank

Supporting arrangement
By providing two tiers of beams, below the tank
and placed over suitably placed columns

Other requirements
A manhole of 450mm diameter or 450mm X
450mm in size to be provided in the roof
Rolled steel bearers or trusses are used to
support the roof coverings
400mm mild steel ladder is provided where
depth is more than 2.5m.

Pressed Steel Tank

Design
From the given capacity, a tank of suitable size
with all dimensions multiple of 1.25m
Size may be obtained from Table 1 to 4 of IS 804.
