descriptionoftheProtagonist,arichnoblemangonepoorduetohisunwaveringpursuitofa
marriedwomanwhoseemingly,willneverreturnhisaffection.Boccacciocreatesastorywide
themeaboutloveandthelengthspeoplewillgoobtainitandhow,sometimeslovecanbefound
inthemostsurprisingplaces.Boccacciosmasterpieceutilizesthreeliterarydevicestogetits
pointacrosseffectivelybothstylisticallyandthematically:DramaticIrony,Alliteration,and
Conflict(InternalandExternal).
TheexternalandinternalconflictsthatFederigocopeswith,aresomethingthatwould
driveatypicalpersoninsane.Hisloveinterest,MonaGiovanna,wasbothmarriedandan
esteemednoblewoman,andcaredlittleforthethingshedidonherbehalfnordidshecarefor
theonewhodidthem(Boccaccio172).Regardless,anddespiteMonaignoringhim,Federigo
continuedtospendhismoneyonherwithoutrestraintandasaresultlosthiswealthandwas
reducedtopoverty(Boccaccio172).Moreso,thewaythatFederigocopeswithhisinternal
conflict,issimplyimpressive.WhenMonaGiovannaapologizestoFederigoabouttheharmhes
