Activating Prior Knowledge

Teacher will go through the states that they have
already learned, which are the states that are on the
game cards. The teacher will go through these states
by showing the students where they are on the map.
This might help jog their memory.
Hook/Lead-In/Anticipatory Set
Students will be prompted to figure out what we are
going to go over that day in class. Asking questions will
prompt them. (What does every state have? Etc.)
Big Idea Statement
Every state has their capitol.

PreAssessment of Students
When activating their prior knowledge and doing the
anticipatory set I will make sure to see which student
are engaged and which students are not. This will give
me a basic understanding on who may know this
content and who may not. I have to keep in mind that
some student do not like to be engaged or speak up in
front of the class.
Modeling of the Concept
I will show them step-by-step on what I expect of them.
Students will each receive 20 different cards. Each card
has its match, which makes 10 matches. Students are
to play a matching/memory game by:
1. Flip over two cards over at a time.
2. If it is a match the student will set them aside.
3. If the cards are not a match the student will flip
them back over and keep trying.
When the students are done they are to show the
teacher to see if they go the matches correct.
Guiding the Practice

The teacher will walk around the room making sure that
everyone is on task and to see if there is any help
needed.
Providing the Independent Practice
This game is to be played independently with no help.
Transition
Students will be able to move any where in the room to
