In this English class the students will be expected to come to class with an open mind. This
course will push the students to think in depth about the pieces we will read. There will be class,
group, and pair discussions, therefore, the students must be respectful to others opinions while
coming to class prepared to discuss their own opinions. The students will be required to write
about their opinions, no opinion is wrong, as long as the student uses evidence to back up the

Class Expectations
Behavior Expected of Students: The students are expected to come into the classroom with an
open mind that is ready to learn. The students are to be respectful when the teacher and other
peers are talking. This room is to remain a healthy, happy learning environment and overall, the
students are expected to put forth their best effort. (This procedure highlights the main points of

expectations that the teacher is looking for from the students so that the students know what they
are required to do in this classroom.)
Consideration for Individual Differences: All students are held to the same standards and
expectations. Every students is expected to try their hardest and put for an effort. For students
that need extra help, rubrics may vary depending on their Individual Education Plan. Any other
differences will also be examined but as said before, all students have the same expectations.
(This procedure highlights how all students are held to the same expectation but rubrics and
outcomes of assignments may vary due to the difference of the students.)
Beginning of Class: Students will enter the classroom quietly. Students will pick up their bell
work journal from their class assigned crates, then the students will sit in their seats. (This will
ensure that the classroom remains tame and under control. This procedure will also make sure
that the students have a routine to follow while the class begins. While the students are working
on their bell work the teacher will be taking the class attendance.)
Tardy Students: First tardy, the student will get a warning. Second tardy, the student will
perform a special talent in front of the classroom. Third tardy, the student will get lunch
detention. Fourth tardy, office referral. (The tardy policy is within a two week period. This policy
allows for students to have chances to correct their tardiness but also allows for the students to
be motivated to come to class on time.)
Leaving the Room: The students will be allowed to leave the room to go to the bathroom, nurse,
office, etc. The students MUST sign in and out of the class room on the clipboard located by the
classroom door. The students MUST also take the pass which will be a plastic sign with big
letters stating which classroom the student is from. After returning to the classroom the student
will take a Lysol wipe and disinfect the sign. (This procedure allows for the students to take care
of their business while the class goes on in the lesson. With the procedure the students will be
accounted for during all times in case of an emergency. The MS. ANTOLINO sign will be
plastic to ensure that it can and will be disinfected.)
Transition between activities: It is understood that the students will probably talk during the
transition between activities, in order to get the students attention back the teacher will raise her
hand in the air to signify that it is time to get back to work. (By using the hand in the air to get
the students attention the students can visually see when it is time get back to work. This
procedure also allows for the teacher to keep her voice.)
Cellphone Policy: Cellphone use is not allowed in my classroom unless otherwise told.
Students cellphones MUST be placed face down on their table. The cellphone MUST be off or
on silent. If a phone goes off during class the student will get a warning for the first offence. For
the second offence the student will get in front of the classroom and preform a special talent of
their choice. (The cellphone policy allows for students to have their phones out where I can see
them to ensure that no one is using them. Also, the policy allows for a punishment to be
something silly to motivate them to not pay attention to their phone.)

Food and drink: Students are allowed to eat and drink in the classroom as they please. The only
rule is, clean up after yourselves! If you spill, clean it up! Do not leave trash behind in the
classroom. If there is constant trash and misuse of the food and drink policy it will be taken
away! (This police allows for students to take on the responsibility of eating and drinking in the
classroom, I believe that students should be able to eat and drink if and when they please.)
When the Teacher is absent: In the event that the teacher is absent The Challenge will
commence! The Challenge is to be on your best behavior as a WHOLE class. The class period
that the substitute finds to be on their best behavior (the best class) will get a SPECIAL TREAT
the following day that I return. There can only be one! (With this policy the students will be
motivated to be the best class of the day.)
End of class I DISMISS YOU, THE BELL DOES NOT! At the end of class the students will be
dismissed by the teacher. The students will only pack up AFTER the teacher has dismissed them.
When walking out of the class the students will put their bell work journal back in their class
assigned crate. (This policy allows for the students to keep quite during the end of class and to
put their journals up in a quick, quite fashion.)

Student Absences: Every day the teacher will hand out a daily agenda, when a student is
absent the student will go to the What did I miss? board and will take out the agenda for the
day(s) they missed. The agenda will include any handouts that were given out and the dates that
the assignments are due. (This policy allows for the students to take responsibility to get the
information needed and for the teacher to not be bombarded with the what did I miss
questions.)

Late work: Work that is assigned SHOULD to be handed in on time, but late work will be
accepted. If work is not turned in on the due date the student will receive a no homework slip
which the student will be required to fill out. The no homework slip asks the date the work was
supposed to be turned in, what assignment is missing, and the excuse why is was not turned in.
The student and parent will also sign the slip. Work that is handed up to one week AFTER the
due date will be accepted for a change at full credit. After one week of being late the work will
be accepted for half credit, UNLESS the student writes a one paged double spaced paper on how
they will apply this assigned work in their future lives. If a student turns in the late assignment
FULLY COMPLETED along with their one page essay, they will have the chance to receive full
credit. (This procedure will allow for life to happen. It is understood that work may not be
handed in on the due date and will this procedure students will be able to still get some points
for putting forth the effort to turn in their work even if it is late. The no homework slip can be
used in parent-teacher conferences and will serve to keep record as to when the assignment was
supposed to be turned in.)

Teacher Expectations
Manage student work: The students will be arranged in desks of four. When it comes to
handing back assignments one student for each group will get their groups assignments.
Collecting homework will be done by one student collecting their groups work and placing in
into their classs assigned tray. (By having one student from their group (desks of four) will allow
for the students to do a little work for the teacher and will keep the students grades
confidential).
Grade students work: Most, if not all, work will have a rubric for the students to know what is
expected of their work. All work will be turned into the assigned tray. All work will be returned
into the assigned tray. I will have work graded within 7-10 days of which it was turned in. (This
policy allows the students and the teacher to have a rubric which shows exactly what the
assignment is asking for. The rubric also shows how it is/was graded.)
Office Hours: The students are welcome into the classroom at any time during the day that the
teacher does not have a class. Meaning, before school, lunch, prep period, and after school the
classroom will be open. Students will need to ensure that the teacher is aware that they will be
stopping into the classroom. Students will be able to schedule a time and date to have one-on-one
meetings. (I want to the students to have ample amount of chance to see me throughout the day
just in case they have questions or just want to talk. I want them to know that I am always here.
By having the room open during times without a class will hopefully build the relationship with
my students.)
Communication with parents: The classroom will have a class website (Weebly) that will be
full of information such as the weekly agendas and what work/projects are due in the upcoming
weeks. There will also be the teachers information on how parents can contact the teacher. (This
procedure ensures that the parents can be involved with their childs schooling at any point they
feel necessary. This website will be updated weekly and will serve as the main way for
communication between teacher and parent.)
Classroom Rules

5)

Be RESPECTFUL.
Come to class prepared EVERYDAY.
Try your hardest EVERYDAY.
Obey ALL school rules. NO EXCEPTIONS.
No swearing. Swearing WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

How do the rules and consequences will reflect the needs of diverse learners
The rules allow for a positive learning environment. The rules are easy to follow and are concise.
The consequences allow warning for students to correct their actions. They also allow for
students to be a little silly in order to try to motivate students to correct their actions. Then after a
warning and a silly performance the students will then have a harsher punishment.

Contact Information
My goal is to have a relationship with all of my students and their parents. For this purpose there
will be a class Weebly page that is updated weekly with what assignments/projects are
upcoming. This allows for parents to be actively engaged on what their child is expected to be
completing. Please feel free to make comments or ask questions at your leisure. I am available
for in-person and phone conferences if anyone would like to set up a meeting. I can be reached
mainly by email and by phone.
