The Results of a Phenomenological Approach Regarding Accounting Education in Greece

(2000-2016)

Abstract
This paper brings together the fields of accounting education and accounting profession in
Greece during the global financial crisis. The purpose of this study is to understand the role of
accounting education in the efforts made to consider certain changes in the accounting
curriculum with the purpose of preparing finest and ethical professionals, and further, of
eliminating the symptoms of a similar financial crisis in Greece. For the purpose of the current
study, the researcher followed a phenomenological descriptive approach, so to understand
individuals' experiences of the phenomenon. Through this, the study explored the individual lived
experiences of 10 accounting professional and 15 accounting professors in Greece. The paper
reports the results of this survey, which showed that each participants individual experience as
an accounting professor or as an accounting professional was unique.

Dimitrios Siskos earned a Doctorate in Finance from SMC University, Switzerland (online private
institution with programmatic -not institutional- accreditation by ACBSP). Before that, he awarded a
M.Sc. in Project Management (with distinction) from City University of Seattle, US. Additionally, he
obtained a B.Sc. Diploma in Accounting from the Technological Educational Institution of Thessaloniki.
He is also a Certified Educator in Didactics and Teaching from the School of Pedagogical and
Technological Education, Thessaloniki (Greece). He has over ten years experience as an Accounting
Manager and works since 2009 in the Finance Department of a big Wine industry. He is a Certified Tax
Accountant A Class and a Certified IFRS by the Association of International Accountants (A.I.A.-UK).
He also works as a part time lecturer at the Perrotis College and, previously, at the Technological
Educational Institution of Thessaloniki. Additionally, he participated as an online instructor in many
