Overview

Tiger P.R.I.D.E (physical education, recreation, inclusion, development and

enjoyment) is an internship created by the Health Exercise and Sport Pedagogy

Department in order to develop the skills of the undergraduate students in
engaging in improving their teaching practices to better prepare themselves to
become professional educators. As part of the Delivery Team (DT) my job is to
promote physical education as well as improve my overall skills in instruction
through teaching, lesson planning, and reflection to better and efficientlyeducate
my students. This week inTigerP.R.I.D.EIdecided tofocusonteachingalesson
on throwing and catching with beanbags and a frisbee. This week I instructed
approximately 810 students on the concepts of underhand throwing, throwin a
frisbee,andcatchingabeanbagorfrisbee.Inoticed that studentshavelearnedthis
concept before during instruction so it was very easy to prepare for the next
activities. The facilities that wereusedwastheblacktopoftheelementaryschool
near the basketball courts. In order toaidestudentsintheirsuccesswiththeskills
and the lesson I used equipment such as 3040 polyspots, 5 bean bags, 3 soft
balls(lowskilled),2cones,andanopensafespace.

II.StudentLearningOutcomes

participating in MVPA with 50% success rate and
perform the skill 5/10 correctly.

In reflecting onmylesson I believethat the students did master the listedlearningoutcomes.

Students were able to remember, recite and demonstrate the skills correctly not only during
instruction but also during gameplay. In this last week of Tiger Pride I noticed that my
comfortablity and confidence in teaching a class has definitely improved. Though there is still
moreroomforimprovement.Theoveralllessonwentverywell.

III.CreatingaQualityLearningEnvironment

Iwasabletosuccessfullyimproveincreatingmoreactivitiesthat weremoreMVPA

driven and also fun for my students. During the lesson it seemed that students had more
confidence inperformingthisskillin class.Asaresulttheyweremorewillingtotrytheactivites
atahigh skilled level. Asthelesson continuedthey wereableto identifyandrecitetheCOTSof
the skill correctly through repetition whichmade iteasierforthem toidentify or describe/ help
other students and themselves with the movements. In using the cots students were able to

improve there skills throughout the class through practice and challenges. In addition,
The psychomotor, cognitive, and affective learning domains were in my opinion
completed successfully through out the lesson. In the lesson itseemedthatIdidimprove
in an increase in MVPA than last couple of weeks. I also imporved in minimizing my
instruction and management. In addition, I think I need to improve my planning of my
lesson just to minimize a little of the management aspect.Overall,Ihopethatthislesson
turned out to be only 510 % of management and instruction and 90% of activity. In
regards challenging students in the lesson, if students were struggling with the activity I
did bringbiggersofterballs.AlsoforlowskilledindividualsImadesurethattheirtargets
or partners were closer to them. When it comes to high skilled students their targets or
partners were farther apart. In order to improve my students progress level and/or
improve their skill development I let them practice all levels oftheskillatleasta couple

understand the activities we were doing. And it seemedto be clearandunderstandable
based on their successful assessment aftertheclass. IwasveryhappythatI did well in
utilizing the wholepartwhole method. Also, I did use students to reproduce a skill
during instructionwhichwasgreat. At theendofthelessondispersingandcollectingthe

weaknesses I found was myspeech, taking to muchtimein managementandinstruction,
andmytransitions.

V.Recommendationsfornextsession

The strategies Iwouldliketoimproveonismy management/instruction,and

transition. Working on transition I will try to keep them in onspot sostudents

will not have to move to much from place to place during the lesson and feel
confused. My goal also is to successfully maintain my MVPA for future
lessons. In addition, for our last week of Tiger Pride I hope that as a class we
canhavealotoffunwithnewandfunactivities.
