TAMC Pediatric Clinical Week 3 Reflection

For this week the first SLO I want to address is:

Seek information to develop plans of nursing care that are family centered, age- and
culturally- appropriate using evidenced-based clinical guidelines. For this SLO, I think I did ok this week in:
-Readily identifies and takes responsibility for own learning needs- I think I had a
good opportunity in the PICU for this. I was able to ask appropriate questions
regarding the care and it assisted in my learning and understanding of the disease
process of the client.
-Explains findings of studies to clients or colleagues- I was able to share what I had
learned in the PICU to my classmates.
I will continue to improve in this SLO by continuing to seek information in all
opportunities and to find opportunities to seek information.

The second SLO I want to address is:

Recognize benefits and limitations of community and governmental support for
family units and individual members with illness. For this SLO, I will address:
-Recognizes current needed resources within the immediate clinical area- I observed
that in the PICU for the 2 month old client, staff had ordered meal trays for the
parent that was with the child. I never realized that that could be done and it was a
good resource for the family. I had also observed social worker speaking to the
family and addressing any concerns that the family may have and offering
resources to the family. It is really important to have a social worker available to fill
in the missing gaps and provide resources for clients that the nurses cant.

Overall my experience this week at TAMC was great. I had a very positive week and
learned so much.
