Answer:

(a) 128 – 3 (15 + 55 ÷ 5) = 128 – 3 (15 + 11)


= 128 – 3(26) (1 Mark)
= 128 – 78
= 50 (1 Mark)

(b) 63 ÷ (48 – 39) + 34 – 4 × 7 = 63 ÷ 9 + 34 - 28


= 7 + 34 – 28 (1 Mark)
= 41 – 28
= 13 (1 Mark)

7. Zulkifli buys a magazine costing RM 8, a dictionary costing RM 35 and a


scientific calculator costing RM 30. Find the total amount of money he
pays.

Answer:

Total amount = RM 8 + RM 35 + RM 30 (1 Mark)


= RM 43 + RM 30
= RM 73 (1 Mark)

8. There are 27 passengers on the bus. 16 of them are men. At Labu bus
stop, 12 passengers, 7 of them are men, board the bus. How many women
passengers are in the bus now?

Answer:

Number of women passengers = (27 - 16) + (12 - 7)


= 11 + 5 (1 Mark)
= 16 (1 Mark)

There are 16 women passengers in the bus. (1 Mark)

9. 1.5 l bottle of cooking oil cost RM 12.88. Liza buys 3 bottles and pays
with a RM 50 note. How much is her balance?

Answer:

Balance = RM 50 – 3(RM 12.88)


= RM 50 – RM 38.64 (1 Mark)
= RM 11.36 (1 Mark)

Her balance is RM 11.36 (1 Mark)

The total payment is RM 71 (1 Mark)

11. Ronald buys 45 boxes of erasers. Each box contains 16 erasers. He


divides equally the erasers among 24 classes. How many erasers does
each class get?

Answer:

45 × 16 ÷ 24 = 720 ÷ 24 (1 Mark)
= 30 (1 Mark)

Each class gets 30 erasers. (1 Mark)

12. A factory produces 3 961 calculators everyday. On a certain day, 11


calculators are faulty. The good ones are packed into 25 boxes. How
many calculators are there in one box?

Answer:

(3 961 – 11) ÷ 25 = 3 950 ÷ 25 (1 Mark)


= 158 (1 Mark)

There are 158 calculators in one box (1 Mark)
