What Research tell us

ABCs
What you do in middle school will
help determine your performance
in high school and whether you will
graduate on time (Dr. Balfanz)
Attendance: Going to school
every day and coming on time
matters
Behavior: Effort and behavior
grades should be Satisfactory or
better
Course Grades: Strive for grades
of C or higher in your classes.
Remember, Ds in high school allow
you to graduate, but you need a C
or better in your classes to remain
eligible for college.
Now that you know this
What did you find valuable?
What will you do differently
now?

Starting doing these things

now!
What college ready students
do:

interests, skills, ambitions

(Take electives, do extra-curricular

you are interested in!)

Set goals: know what you

need to achieve and do it

(Start setting SMART goals)

Motivated: Have a mindset

to achieve goals (Work first,
play second)

especially when it gets
difficult (Dont doubt your ability,
doubt your strategies)

Monitors Performance:
Know how well you are doing

(Check School Loop daily, re-do

test and quizzes, practice & study!)

Asks for help: uses available

resources like parents,

teachers, counselors, friends
when stuck and does not view
it as a weakness (Practice

How will you know you are

becoming more successful as a
student?

asking for help, we are all experts

at something but not at
everything!)

Demonstrates selfefficacy: Knows how to

control the things you can
control, then controls them!!

(You can control setting goals, how

you use your time, amount of
effort, asking for help, etc.So do
