I am writing this letter on behalf of Hannah Heissel. Hannah worked for the Palo Alto County
Conservation Board as our summer Naturalist intern from May to August 2015. Her primary
responsibility was conservation education.
As her supervisor, I found Hannah to be a dependable, hard-working employee. She is a well-rounded
person with many interests. Her positive attitude and outgoing personality made her a joy to work with.
Hannah works well in a team setting, yet is able to work independently. She displays mature judgement
in dealing with difficult situations.
The diversity of tasks we assigned required Hannah to be organized, creative, flexible and willing to try
new things on short notice. She conducted herself well before a group. Hannah helped plan and
implement day camps, a teacher workshop, public recreation programs and outdoor events. Through
involvement in this programming, she was able to impact people of a variety of ages and backgrounds:
young children, family groups, teachers and the general public. She has had experience with students of
differing abilities, interests and temperaments.
Other tasks included producing publicity flyers, public service announcements, displays and activity
props, as well as cleaning turtle tanks, filling bird feeders and weeding the butterfly garden. She
performed all of her duties with a smile on her face.
As a public employee, I could count on Hannah to act professionally. She knows that each individual
within an organization is an ambassador and a reflection of that organization. She is well-respected by
college instructors, parents and children, and our own staff.
This past semester, Hannah volunteered to do some programming for us at a local elementary school.
She learned the part of Ruby Raindrop and donned the costume to visit 3rd grade students at West
Elementary in Emmetsburg. She did a nice job and enjoyed the experience.
It is without hesitation that I recommend Hannah for any job for which she applies. She will do well in
the field she has chosen.
