CONCEPT OR PRINCIPLE

Man has an important role to play in the preservation of the environment. The effects of man
can have serious consequences to nature and in order to preserve nature every person can play
an active role in preserving our forests and wildlife since we all depend on all living things in
order for us to survive.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, students should be able

to:

Classification

Learning Type

Comprehension

Cognitive

Recognize the important role animals and plants

play in our lives.

Valuing

Affective

Develop strategies to conserve forests and wildlife

Create

Cognitive

Describe how human activities can be detrimental

to organisms and the environment.

PROCESS SKILLS

During this lesson, students will be engaged in:

Identifying / formulating a problem

Designing and Planning an experimental procedure
Setting-up and executing experimental work

Observing and measuring

Recording of data and observations

Interpreting and evaluating data and observations

Communicating scientific ideas, observations and arguments

Applying scientific ideas and methods to solve qualitative and quantitative problems

Decision-making based on examination of evidence and arguments

Extracting from available information data relevant to a particular situation

ACTIVITIES

Introduction:
ENGAGEMENT- T shows a bitstrip comic of a hunter and an activist. T then asks if they are
familiar with any of these events. T asks students to decide who they believe makes more sense
and initiates a debate. T then introduces the topic
T then tells students that man has many effects on the environment but today we will be
focusing on the effects of man on nature i.e. plants and animals.
EXPLORATION Teacher then does a role play which continues from the bitstrip involving a
report being made to a police officer (played by the teacher) by a the activist (an assistant) and a
threat to his life.
ELABORATION Students are then asked to pretend they are fellow officers and are asked by
the Police officer if they think that the activists reasons his life is under threat is valid. The
officer presents the student (his fellow officers) with a copy of the report made by the activist.
Students are then asked to assist the officer in assisting the citizen by developing strategies by
which the society can help the citizen.
EVALUATION Students are shown a video.
Students are then asked to explain orally if there were any similarities about the video and the
activists complaints.
T recaps main points of the lesson.

Assignments:
Students are asked to design a flyer to create public awareness of mans effects on nature.
