Backround: Hello my name is Mr. Hovik and I will be teaching Physical Education at
Cheatham Elementary this year. I truly believe Physical Education is imperative in
every students life. Physical Education not only helps improve the physical health
of students but it helps with their mental capabilities.
I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. I am a sports fanatic and a former
athlete myself. I played football as a quarterback all four years of high school and
also my first year of college. 3 years ago I started coaching football at a high school
in South Phoenix. Coaching, working with kids and physical activity is my life
passion. I love spending time with my family and friends. Looking forward to having
a great year!

Materials/Resources:
Students will need to make sure they have closed toe shoes for class. They will wear their school
uniform in P.E.

Grade Scale:
Students will be graded based on a letter grade scale (A,B,C,D,F). Every grade level, K6, will have the same grading scale. Every student will start out with an A in the class. It is up to
them if they keep that A or not. Students will be graded based on behavior, performance and
effort. If a student has been placed in time out 4 times or sent to the office, his/her grade will
drop one letter. Students can go to time out for not listening to directions, being a distraction to
those around them, not giving full effort or participating and by not listening to the safety
procedures. The reason I will grade on behavior is because if the student is constantly being a
disruption to the class and to me, it takes time away from other students time in P.E. The whole
purpose of P.E. is to keep kids active and healthy so its important that every kid behaves so they
can reach their full potential. Students will be graded on effort as well because 70% of students
athletic ability is based on genetics so it is not fair to grade them on their athletic ability. Students
will not have to worry about being the most athletic in the class because they will not be graded
on how fast they can run or how high they can jump. As long as students are working hard every
day and arent getting sent to timeout for misbehaving they will receive an A.

The following is the grading scale:

0-3 disciplinary actions=A,
4-6= B
7-9=C
10-12=D
13+ =F
- I will have a book with every kids name in it and every time they receive a disciplinary action
they will receive a check mark as well as a note about why they got in trouble
- The note will briefly describe what happened and what lead them to being in timeout

Classroom Expectations:
-Be respectful
-Wear appropriate school uniform and closed toe shoes
-Work hard

-Try your best

-Be safe
-Have fun!!!

Rules:
1. FREEZE, LOOK, LISTEN
2. KEEP HANDS AND FEET TO YOURSELF
3. USE EQUIPMENT AS INSTRUCTED
4. HUSTLE AND SAY I CAN!

Late work/Absences:
Students will not have take home work in this class. Students are expected to be in class and
behave appropriately. If a student has an excused absence they will not lose any points. If a
student is missing unexcused they will lose points for the day but can come in and make up their
points either at lunch or after school. They will be given a written or physical assignment to do
during this time to receive make up points. They can receive all of their points from the day they
missed if they come in and do well on the assignment.
