Objective

To find which ice shape can best preserve its

temperature so it would last for the longest time, in
order to save money and electricity.

Background information
Ice is made up by freezing water which is in liquid form, and it takes times to be a
solid ice. It can be in any forms such as cubical, straw-liked, powder-liked, and
vice versa. An ice can be shaped to an another form as well either melt or
evaporate it. In order to make an ice, we do require electricity for allowing an
ice-making machine to create them. However, as the more you use the
electricity, the more money you need to spend. Therefore, we would like to
perform an experiment, which ice shape melts slowest, so we can save energy
and money.

Hypothesis
The cube shape is the best shape that will help to
save the electricity, because the cube is the shape
that have a lowest surface area that interact with
environment (Base on first law of thermodynamic).

Experiment design

Results

The cube shaped ice last the longest due to its least
surface area.

The cylinder shaped ice with holes in the middle won the
second placed. Even though, the difference of surface area of
the cube shaped and cylinder shaped is not that large, but the
cylinder shape has a hole in the middle. The hole increase the
contact area with water and cause it to melt faster than the
cube shape.

The powdered ice melt the fastest according the the largest
surface area it has.

Conclusion
The experiment result follows the hypothesis
that we have stated. This means that the ice surface
area determines how long the ice can last due to the
contact with the environment and its ability to resist
heat transmission.
