Activity: What are you doing?
Source: Jackson, C. (20 Feb 2016, personal communication)
Equipment: None
Activity Description:
1. 8-20 people. Have the group stand in a circle.
2. The facilitator will pick a person to go first. The participants must act out an activity.
3. The person to the right of the actor will ask (after about 5 seconds) What are you
doing?
4. The actor will say an activity different from the one they are acting out.
5. The person to their right who asked the question will then have to act out the activity the
person before them answered the question with.
6. This will go on all around the circle. The facilitator may stop it at any time or it can be
repeated.
Leadership Considerations:
1. This game is designed to have the participants use their cognitive abilities and motor
skills to portray an activity without using any objects, props, or words. It allows the
people to actually think about how to use your body to act out an activity.
2. When there are participants who have rheumatoid arthritis, the game can be played sitting
down to lessen the stress on the joints.
3. When participants who have mixed Cerebral Palsy are playing, the facilitator may use
categories of types of activities so that the participants can organize types of activities in
their mind. For example, the group may be limited to activities of daily living (brushing
teeth, eating) or sports(basketball, tennis). Along with that, the facilitator may shake
things up and make the group only do things with their hands rather than use their legs
and feet if there is someone who is in a wheelchair.
