classroom procedures
and syllabus
Bienvenidos to Seorita Sashas Spanish Class!
This class will revolve around learning the Spanish language focusing on grades 9th-12th.
Learning a language is an exciting process that allows you to expand your ideologies about the
world. Language allows us to communicate and without it we would be lost! Languages can
open many doors to many things. Yes, it can be complicated at times but please, do NOT be
discouraged, Rome wasnt built in a day! It is important that we approach this challenge with an
optimistic attitude. We will ALL make mistakes and mispronounce a few words but I want you to
understand that it is aloud! I want you to make mistake and ask questions because this will make
this process your very own.
As your mentor, together we will slowly but surely develop an understanding of speaking,
reading and writing the language using history and culture. Brace yourselves because we are
about to begin a wonderful journey!
Gracias!
Ms. Sasha Rincn

Course and Arizona Department of Education description:

By engaging in learning a world language, students build 21st century literacy skills. Reading,
writing, listening, speaking, and viewing are integral to the language learning process. When
students learn a second language they build proficiency in three modes of communication:
interpersonal (person-to-person speaking or writing), interpretive (listening and reading), and
presentational (one-way speaking and writing). Students learn to maneuver the structures,
functions, and patterns of language. They learn to ask and answer questions, identify words,
describe, retell stories, interpret text, and apply the conventions of language within the constructs
of a particular culture.
Learners benefit by having the language
proficiency to communicate with global
audiences, the insight into the cultural
perspectives that shape those audiences,
and the ability to behave appropriately in a
variety of cultural contexts. These
standards are organized under two broad
categories: Communication and Cultural
Competencies. They are not intended to be
taught as separate entities, but should be
interconnected during instruction. Students
must not only communicate, but be able to
do so in a culturally appropriate manner. A
cultures perspectives reflect the values,
beliefs, and attitudes of its people.
Through
contact
with
products
(monuments, laws, music, etc.) developed
by a culture and practices (eating habits,
shopping behaviors, use of space, etc.)
demonstrated by its people, we come to
understand the perspectives (values,
attitudes, beliefs, etc.) of a people.
Through these standards, Arizona seeks to
nurture and develop indigenous, heritage, and world languages. Students who develop world
languages, heritage language, and cultural skills will be better-positioned to live and work in an
increasingly multilingual environment. (World and Native Language Standards, Arizona

Course Policies
Classroom Rules:
As a class, we will create 5 rules. These rules will be posted on the walls to remind students to
follow each and everyone of them for the year. Once rules are created they will not change,
create the rules wisely.
The teacher will create 5 rules of her own that all students must respect
1. Come prepared to class
Bring all needed materials to class, Spanish notebook, homework/assignments, pencils, pen, etc.
Do not leave anything in your locker.
2. Bring a positive attitude and PARTICIPATE
Leave all negativity at the door. Be excited and come ready to learn! Participation is key when
learning a language.
3. Do not interfere with the learning of others
Respect that students are here to learn, please do not distract or bother your peers. If you are
being disruptive, you will be asked to leave the room.
4. Respect the teacher
Respect when the teacher is talking. Respect her classroom.
5. Obey school rules
It is the students responsibility to read the school handout and respect the rules.

Consequences for Rule Violations

Cellphone policy: Students are not allowed to use cellphone unless instructed otherwise. If
caught with the use of their cellphone they will receive a warning. After 2 warnings per semester,
teacher will assign detention.
Technology: Technology is always encouraged but will only be allowed during certain
assignments/lessons. Learning a language through technology can be very engaging for students.
Laptops and or tablets may be used for note taking with the permission of teacher. Violation of
inappropriate use will result in banning technology from student.
Class Edmodo Page/Google Classroom
This class page will be a safe environment for both students and parents to interact with one
another. No obscene or hostile language and or images are permitted. Respect for each another is
the number one rule. I have created this class page to facilitate the subject and present different
ways of learning besides the classroom.
The student is responsible for viewing the page.
On this page you will find notes such as reminders (due dates, updates, new assignments, in case
you were absent, etc.), quizzes, and polls for the students to participate in. Participation is key!

Tardy policy
Bathroom policy:
Students should use the restroom before class begins. They are not allowed to leave during the
main lesson unless it is an emergency. After the lesson, students must ask permission to use the
restroom and sign out.
Late work: If students fail to submit work by due date, they have the opportunity to submit the
assignment for up to three days, but a 50% deduction will be automatically given. If the work is
not submitted after three days from when the assignment became late, the work will not be
accepted.
Excused Absences: If student has an excused absence, it is their responsibility to check the
Google classroom page. Every day the teacher will post the review of the day and any
assignments/homework given. Student has a day+ to submit work.
Unexcused Absences: If a student has an unexcused absence from class, the student will not be
able to make up the points for the classes participation. The student will also be allowed to make
up the assessments, if missed, upon their return. The student will be expected to complete the
work for the day that they missed as well, with the same policy of a day+.
Academic Dishonesty:
Academic integrity is fundamental to the activities and principles of the school. All members of
the academic community must be confident that each person's work has been responsibly and
honorably acquired, developed, and presented. Any effort to gain an advantage not given to all
students is dishonest whether or not the effort is successful. The academic community regards
breaches of the academic integrity rules as extremely serious matters. Sanctions for such a
breach may include academic sanctions from the instructor, including failing the course for any
violation, to disciplinary sanctions ranging from probation to expulsion. When in doubt about
plagiarism, paraphrasing, quoting, collaboration, or any other form of cheating, consult the
course instructor.
ADA:
If you need accommodations because of a disability, if you have emergency medical information
to share with me, or if you need special arrangements in case the building must be evacuated,
please inform me immediately. Please see me privately after class, or at my office.
