Frameworks Reflection
After reading from the English framework, the knowledge I needed to teach English Arts/
Literacy in an elementary classroom includes a variety of specific methods, such as, meaning
making, language development, effective expression, content knowledge, and foundational skills.
Language and language fluency starts from birth and the more one is exposed to language by
books, reading, their environment, and English support the better their progress will increase.
With the English framework being so impacted with knowledge it could be overwhelming;
however, it did touch on topics that were presented in my college courses and in everyday life.
The college course that has prepared me to teach in an elementary classroom were
Anthropology, English 305 and 308, and English for 2nd language learners. A few of the college
courses has prepared me for future teaching and others have just opened my perspective on
different views of language. The area I feel well prepared in is literacy because that is what I do
the most and have more experience, training, and hands on with. When it comes to choosing
books, reading aloud, character study, expanding on the concrete ideas in a book and relating
them to everyday life experiences. Creating solid foundations for the love of reading,
exploration, and investigation. On the opposite spectrum of things, the area I feel less prepared in
would be the breakdown of language and anthropology because it is a bit difficult. The classes I
took in college was an overview of how language is broken down, but more studying of that
particular subject would be convenient because that subject is broken down into phonology,
morphology, phonetics, and many other categories. By taking all of those courses in college, the

preparation to teach English was the greatest compare to other subjects, which will be illustrated
through my artifacts.
The artifacts I plan on sharing in my portfolio on this subject would be my English
frameworks reflection, my book on prepositions, and an English Socratic Seminar paper. My
work samples demonstrate my knowledge in the English language arts/Literacy by researching
the form of language, such as prepositions, which is demonstrated in my book. My personal
experience in working with children in a literacy program for seven years have prepared me to
effectively get the knowledge to my students in an engaging and academic manner.
